I can buy a virtually new Brembo P32F rear caliper to replace the original on my '97 900SS carbie. The price is cheaper than rebuilding the original. An old post on this Supersport forum said this would fit.

However it doesn't have the 'hump' the original comes with. Can anyone confirm that this new P32F caliper will fit and if so, what was the purpose of the 'hump'?

(Bear in mind the caliper is underslung and would be upside down compared to the photos)

That "hump" is a boss cast in to allow the bleeder and line holes to be drilled on that side if needed. Brembo makes lots of calipers for different applications and consolidating the basic casting eliminates the need for separate castings for similar designs. As long as the piston size and mounting holes match it's OK
