I agree, that is too much money for a chain when there are reputable alternatives at a much better value.

Thanks guys.... okay, I'm convinced, I won't do it!:)

I'm about to put on the 44 T Supersprox (525), and since I need a new chain, I thought it would be fun to get red, but I don't want to sacrifice quality ... I didn't know there were alternative red ones out there, I'll check it out;)

My husband will be happy... poor guy..... married to a blingoholic:D

Hmm....what is THE best chain??

RK, DID, EK, they're all good if you take care of them. Use a riveting master link not a clip and you'll be good to go.

Ha! Rivet style, riveted, whatever it is. I find them riveting but I forget others may not be as fascinated (fastenated?).... :D

Researched this subject earlier this year and the "best" chains most frequently
mentioned were the DID ZVM2 rivet type and the RK GXW series (eg. GB525GXW).

If you shop around, there are some big price variations from different 'Net sites.
Last March I found two vendors selling the gold RK 525GXW chain in the
110-link size for only $110.00 (you 'cut' the chain to length). Hyper stock
chain length is 104 links, but I went with 106 links for the new 45-tooth
Supersprox.

Good info! Thanks so much:)
So, how do you like the 45? I'm looking forward to the 44, and was wondering how 45 would be:)

Well, it's just one better than the 44! ;)

The 45T nets you 7.1% lower final drive gearing; the 44T nets 4.76%.
Interestingly, dropping the front sprocket one tooth to a 14 is also 7.1%.

Seriously, for anyone contemplating new gearing, I would recommend playing
with the numbers at www.gearingcommander.com. The Hyper stock numbers
are loaded and available to be selected on the app. You can then do experiments
with different sprockets and look at all the speeds and RPMs in each gear, see
the change in sprocket -to-sprocket centering, same tooth/same link scenarios,
etc.

Trying to resurrect this thread. Could only find 2 red chains:

- EK 520MVXZ Chain (can be had for around $100)

- NR520GXW (red version of 520GXW) but not able to find it for sale in the US

I'm also doing the 15/44 conversion. Though both these chains are rated for up to 1000cc, still should be good to go with either of these for the hypermotard, right?

Hi netjak-
I never did go with the red. I can't remember why, but I ended up going silver. :D. I have since sold my hyper and am now riding a daytona, however, if I were going to go with red or any other groovy color chain, I would def go with the EK 520 MVXZ X-Ring. You are on the right track.

Sheesh, now you have me thinking about what color to get for the daytona!:)
