Let's assume the patient is a 1995 916 that was de-fueled and fogged 8 years ago with 10K miles. My routine would be as follows:

1. Replace belts and inspect brakes
2. Flush/replace all fluids and filters
3. Install new battery
4. Remove plugs, add lubricant, and turn the motor over
5. Fill with fresh fuel and higher dose of Techron
6. Install new plugs
7. Fire it up and take her for a ride, keeping RPM's below 5K and above 3K, varying RPM's
8. Run through one tank of gas
9. Change engine oil and filter
10. Enjoy!

Anything critical I'm missing?

I just did pretty much the same thing on a 916 that had been sitting for 11 years.

You'll want to add new fuel lines, air filters, and tank quick-disconnects to your list, along with a new battery.

Once started, check the voltage. The early regulator/rectifiers are no bueno.
Replace with a mosfet unit to ease the voltage shunt off the alternator.
