Hey everybody,

Searched the forum and didnt find any help regarding my topic.

Returning from Afghanistan in August and planning to take my '05 Multi from VA, up through Toronto, and then around to Thunder Bay, down, and back home. Hoping to see the Aurora Borealis and unwind a bit, but i want to stay off the slab as much as possible. Anyone been up there and have any roads i absolutely should not miss?

thanks!

No question #17 from the Sault to Tbay is a must see. Awesome vistas even worth seeing from both directions if your not going all around. Its all about the views more than the ride especially from Wawa south and there will likely be plenty of others enjoying the sights as well. The stretch between the Sault and Sudbury is less interesting while still enjoyable. I would highjly recommend exploring some of the possible loops north of there (although there could be some gravel/moose/logging trucks/bear involved) I had an awesome ride last summer coming back from a trip around Superior (going E to W across the south & W to E across the top) from Thesalon N on 129 to Chapleau then 101 towards Timmins & 144 S to 17 just W of Sudbury. I liked the 129 the best although the top section was still under construction the bottom was all new surface, very well marked, no traffic/cops, a couple of logging trucks, beautiful & twisty. Except for the tore up bits it was all good fun and could just as easily be done in reverse. There a number of provincial parks you could camp in or take a room in Timmins. Also if you want to avoid the slab from T. to Sudbury there is plenty of countryside to explore from the side roads up to Tobermorey where you can catch a ferry over to Manitoulin and ride up to 17 through the LeCloche highlands (watch out for deer).
