On a country road doing 100kmph passing a car over white lines.
And the bastard turned right.
In the scenery at high speed, very nasty.
Managed to stay upright.
On my mate's bike.
Check out the pipe.

I assume traffic runs on the left side of the road in Oz like it does in England. You got lucky.

Yes, I'd say that your riding skills saved your ass!

BTW, great helmet. I've got the same. Fred

Yes we travel on the other side of the road,
and yes I got very lucky,
there was runoff and I didn't have to low side it to stop in a hurry.

I have to admit it took 2 weeks to post a pic because I couldn't look at them. I went out last weekend and I was very nervous.

very scary

Rossco,

When you write that the driver turned right, was this a full 90 deg trun into a die road/house, or were they being evil and swerving right, into your path as you overtook?

Either way, you were indeed very lucky. I guess that Staintune pipe will be about $500 to replace?

Hope you get your confidence back very soon. Are you riding down to the Island for the GP?

cheers,

Dave

G'day Dave

Yeah they went to turn into their driveway.
The bloke just signalled late and did a 90degree turn.
No ones fault really.
He signalled late, I hit him from behind.
Saved myself a neg driving charge and didn't get the cops involved.

Yeah heading Phillip Island, leaving Tuesday week,
Mudgee, Tumit, Alpine Rd maybe Omeo Hilltop Pub etc staying trackside.
5 blokes 3 dukes and a plethora of beer.
More the merrier.

Staintune charge extra for one pipe $735.
At least I could get one, one of my Termis would have been impossible to get in time.

How about you?

Hey Rossco,

Glad to hear you are OK mate, close call & a reminder to all, that anything can happen, & normally does!

Safe travels to the Island, wish I was going with you, definitely next year, I want to go.

Thanks guys...

Yeah Bill it works good and it was an easy install. The local Duke store thought I had made it out of a set of 999 lights. They are not exactly common over here.

Scored a support vehicle for the trip to Phillip Island, just when I bought some hard bags. Typical.

I am in the process of mounting a cam on the bike so should be able to get some footage of the Alpine road and post it on You Tube. Last years video is epic.

The pic is of my mrs and a couple of our Dukes from 98.

accidents Down Under

Yesterday about 5am, a local canberra rider died when he hit a kangaroo. Poor guy was probably just going to work as usual. It would still have been dark at that time. It happened on a suburban dual-carriageway (Barton Highway) which is a major arterial into Canberra from the north.

No further details. R.I.P.
