If I was going to be stupid enough to start re wrapping the wiring harness on my 999 while I have it apart, what do I use?

Self vulcanizing rubber tape goes soft and gluggy and falls apart near oil/fuel/heat.
PVC insulation tape loses it's adhesive and unravels
cloth tape, like the oem stuff, and what I use on starter motor stators needs a method of retention.
spiral wrap only pretects part of the cabling, and looks like ship.
full plastic tubing, or glass tubing, would be good, but it won't fit over the plugs
Heatshrink finishes up too stiff

Best I can think of is a cloth tape with bitumen in it. aka pitch 'n ' bitch. Haven't seen any of that for years...

Any ideas?

Tesa make a brilliant line of harness tapes. Not fond of the old pitch tapes doesn’t take much in the way of solvents to make them gooey. On saying that I have half the harness on the 999 behind the battery box done in a similar tape. On the bits you can see I’ve sheathed the wires in flexible weave tube. Looks a treat.

The way you blokes just seem to know where/when to drop back into the past threads on the forum blows me to bits! How do you do it?

Anyhow thanks for the pointers. I'll ring my Mercedes dealer on Monday. Regards, Greg.

Yes, the flexo PET is what I’d use. I haven’t come up with a satisfactory way to make the cuts look clean though. They tend to want to expand and look ragged. I use small black zip ties, anyone have something better ?

The sock braid. Melt the ends on your wife’s iron. I shit you not?. Then heat shrink the end AND the tail of whatever plug is at the end. You can put a bit of glue under the heat shrink if you don’t go over the plug. And careful with the heat, the braid melts easily.
