I currently have a Valentine 1 and have been a V1 fan for many years. I sent it in last year for their latest upgrade and it seems to be working well, but the external audio adapter needed for the visual alert, or the cheetah is getting to be problematic so I'm considering a new unit. Most of the guys I ride with use an Escort 8500 x50, I see there is now a 9500ix that has many cool features the V1 simply doesn't have like GPS locating, false alert storage and red light and speedcam alerts.

It feels like the 8500x50 would provide comparable coverage without the need for any external accessories for audio or visual alerts, but the 9500ix takes detection to a new level.

being a tech geek I'm very tempted to get the top of line 9500ix, but I thought I'd check with others who ride much more than I do.

Is it worth the extra $200 for the 9500ix or is the 8500x50 all a rider really needs ?

Id never get rid of my V1. Ive been using it for the last 7 years on the bike and in the car without any issues. i use the concealed display and audio adapter and couldnt be more pleased. i dont care how many gimicks the other brands come out with, the arrows and bogie counter is the best thing i could ever want. Every year in the detector tests, the V1 is always on top.

I have an Escort 8500 X50 with a HARD unit and the system works very well. I don't think the 9500 has enough new features to make it attractive to me.

However, I saw that Escort is bringing out a new model with dual antennas and improved performance. That one might get me to relagate the X50 to car duty.
