I searched both boards, and I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I figured that I'd try my hand at asking exactly what I was looking for. So...

I've got a 2005 749 Dark, and really, really want to go monoposto. First off, there's a guy locally whom I can get the whole shebang for... subframe, tail fairing, rear seat pad, seat pan, etc. for $800. I think that's a good price, but there's really no reference, as everyone pieces things together, as deals like this rarely come up. Keep in mind I'd have to paint it to match, but that'll be negligable.

Also... do I need a rider's (not pillion) seat off of a mono, or can I use the existing seat that's on my 749 biposto now?

That's about it, and thanks for your help in advance!

If your going for looks only, the Mono tail will fit on a BiP subframe..

Just so you know..

No, you can use the same seat.

As an alternative to spending so $800 or more converting to mono, you can look around, there are many 749/999 owners out there who are willing to trade their mono set for a bi-posto set.

For example:

Go to the Classified and post your intention to trade, be patient and odds are you will get a good opportunity without waiting too long.

Apparently, my search skills are so far advanced that I easily bypass the obvious search choices that will enable me to get the results that I'm looking for.

It seems that I only need the rear fairing area, which is a good thing, since I don't really want to drop as much money as I'm willing to do... especially considering that I'm going to paint it. Speaking of painting- on eBay, there is an aftermarket tail that's made by Cheetah Racing and it's about $200 primed and ready for paint, and it looks pretty good. Any experiences? Also, and while I'm asking questions, if someone's going for the mono look only, why would you replace the entire subframe?

when i converted mine I wanted to eliminate the helmet lock and the rear peg tabscause that just looks goofy on a mono,, so I bought a stock bipostos subframe from ebay, ground all those tabs of and then had it powdercoated. Then I used the new blingey Ducati rear single tail and it all bolted right up.

Kozik,

I was thinking of getting that Ducati tail, but not only is it unavailable (it'd be nice since it's already painted to match), but it's been on backorder for months! Also, I like the shorter true mono tail, since it shows more of the Termignoni (in my case) exhaust.

At least I don't have to replace the subframe, if I don't want to. I'll keep you posted...

nice thing about this tail is the bike runs cooler as the vents do a good job of increasing airflow past the top of the engine and exhaust...or so it seems. I have no heat issues whatsoever since I put it on.
