Yep you have to pull the pipes to get the wheel off, least near as I can tell. But pretty easy, you just have to detach a couple retaining springs and the mount to the foot peg. The cans only have about a 3" section of pipe sticking out which insert into the rest of the exhaust system. so pretty easy. If disassembly goes as it looks, I'd think you could pull the pipes in 10-15 minutes.
I went to pitbulls website. This is what they say for the 1098
"NOTE: It has come to our attention that some 2008 1098R models have a smaller diameter hole on the right side axle than other 1098 models. Please verify that your right side axle hole is larger than 1.685" or call/email us to let us know if you need the custom 1098R pin."

I measured the right side hole as they instructed and 1.68 was what I got.
So it should work.
