My 2012 S Touring has just under 4K miles now, from the day I got it it sometimes feels like its not performing to its max. When it was new I assumed the ECM was holding it back for break in proposes as the throttle felt disconnected at a certain point.
It was checked for error codes at the 600 mile service and has never thrown a code, some days or run ups it simply amazes with the front wheel hovering off the ground and accelerates like a scalded cat others not so much. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Sometimes if you start it up and ride straight off my bike seems to run in
"I'm not quite up to it" mode.

So I let it get to temp first start of the day and let it run for at least a minute when hot before I ride off.

Good description of how it feels, like I said sometimes its amazing other times its OK. I'll give it a shot.

I have noticed this too. Sometimes I think it's just a reflection of how I'm feeling (perception rather than reality), other times I blame the air temperature and humidity. I have noticed it gets consistent and predictable after a long ride, for example after an hour on the highway when it's completely warmed up.

i have notices similar but mine its not related to warm up since i never ride mine until the temp is off "lo". For me i think its quality of fuel thing. If i get gas at any place other than mobil or shell it runs like crapola, I generally put mobil in it and it runs well all the time. If i get gas at say my friends gulf station it will run like a bucket of bolts until i run that tank out and refill with mobil. I have played with this quite a but and it seems consistent depending on where i fuel.

I hear ya!

This is my 4th FI bike. They ALL seemed to have this feeling of real inconsistent touchy throttle response.
Can't think of any better way to describe it other than, it feels like it's got more balls some days than others!!!!!!!!

Well they all do as they are condition that is altitude/air pressure/temperature reactive, but the biggest real differences I find day to day insofar as lofting the wheel is concerned is if the road is level or not. Going slightly uphill always feels faster and will loft quicker. If the bike is feeling pokey, gas it hard in second gear going up a grade. It'll get your attention.

Have you fellas checked the exhaust valve? They often get a bit dirty and seize up, having a big influence on performance!
It should throw a EXUP error on startup if that is the case.

Other fuel makes my bike feel a little different. Not as bad as "not quite up to it" but sort of less smooth. No I don't mean diesel fuel  but if I fill the tank with 98 instead of 95 it runs a bit worse. Sometimes I like to fill it up once and a while with Shell V-Power or some other so called "really-good-for-your-engine-sir" petrol.

Also, I have the feeling it runs better when it colder outside, don't know, like the engine breaths better.

No idea if it all makes sense. But after 22k+ you get to know your bike a little, and notice every little difference.
