Paul Smart owner in search of unicorn, Lower Fairings.

I am proud new Paul Smart owner, I know from reading and researching forums, finding a set of the OEM Paul Smart lower fairings is like finding a unicorn but nevertheless that’s what I’m looking for. I know they are not cheap when they come up. Anyone happen to have a set for sale? Or have a lead on a set?

I know I’ll have to be realistic here, so I am considering a set of aftermarket fairings but have heard very mixed reviews when it comes to good fitment and of course matching the silver metal flake paint. So far the best reviews I’ve seen for for are for Airtech’s aftermarket fairings. Any suggestions and or experience from owners who have purchased high quality aftermarket lower fairings, would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

where in Canada are you?

there are 4 options to my knowledge

1. look for OEM - best option but keep in mind that OEM lowers were prone to cracking at the bottom mounting points. I have seen this a lot
2. as you mentioned, Airtech. quality is poor and they require A LOT of sanding and prepping to mount properly and look decent
3. check eBay Italy. Someone there also advertises lowers but DON'T be fooled, they are not OEM despite the misleading description. My friend in Germany got a set and they are comparable to Airtech. Perhaps they are Airtech and are being prepped and painted and sold as "OEM"
4. Worthing Classics - Luke makes lowers made of carbon. the advantage is that they will not crack like the OEM but the disadvantage is that you need to do some serious homework on how to avoid the carbon touching the tank. if you don't, the abrasive carbon will destroy your tank and any other areas it touches on your bike. Perhaps Luke has solutions for this. I also don't know if he as any fairings left for sale

other than that, I am not aware of any other leads

I’m in Toronto. Thanks for the input. Good to know that tidbit about the original OEM fairings also. They would be ideal despite the potential for cracking. Hopefully of I can’t find OEM fairings I’ll find aftermarket fairings that fit well. I suppose the best plan would be to fit them before painting as imagine there’d have to be tweaks made.

I went through everything you mentioned and decided to just buy a Paul Smart that came with the full fairings...Good Luck finding an original set. I looked at some from Italy (not the originals) and the one's from Airtech to possibly put on my 1000s but could never confirm the fitment on either.

So far my originals have no signs of cracking. I was thinking about putting some kind of clear tape from 3M on some of the weak points.

There is a Paul Smart with full fairings for sale near toronto. Perhaps the seller will sell you just the fairing?! Worth a shot.

Great minds think alike. I actually reached out to that owner. Nice guy but he is doesn’t want to sell his lowers separately. Didn’t hurt to ask though.

He should, as I don't see bikes bringing a large enough premium due to having the fairings installed. Maybe they add $1,000 or so to the sale price.

Offer him $2,500 for the fairings and see what he says.

So, this might be an unrealistic suggestion, but... fastest way to get them would be to buy that PS and sell yours (or take the fairings and resell that one... you get the idea). A lot of risk and capital tied up in that approach but it would get the job done.

Agreed on all accounts. I look forward to taking out the PS this year as well. I've needed new tires for the past couple of years and haven't taken her out because of this. It's nice to see $19K for a 1000s that needs some work to it.
wild, talk about stock -- down to the shell sticker. very interesting price for sure at that condition. far from mint.

Holy crap... I feel like I have never seen a 1000S go for more than $15k USD, let alone that much. Maybe I should look into listing mi... Nope. Nope Nope. Almost said something crazy there.

I don't remember one going quite that high either. Even the Paul Smarts don't break the $20k all that often. This one wasn't even in pristine condition and not only did it need some things done to it cosmetically, but it also needed valves checked and new belts (and a good cleaning).
