It's the first 70 degree day of the year and something's wrong with my bike...

Although it starts and runs fine, the volts go right up past 15 then the check engine light comes on. I verified it with a multimeter and although it's off a couple of volts from what's reading on the guages it's charging at around 15 volts...

Any suggestions? The bike's still under warranty ('05) so I can't tear into it too deep but if there's anything I should check or do, an opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This is crazy but it seems to have healed itself...

I took the reg out and pluged it into my wife's Monster. Now the one from my 999 is behaving normally in a 620. I put it back in the 999 and now it's working normally... charging at 13.9 - 14.1 when you pick up the idle. No check engine light or high charge warning as before.

The strange thing is that it really was overcharging on the multimeter rather than a sensor or calibration glitch tripping the light.

Weird.

You're rght... It's broke!:( Went out tonight and now there's a consisent "check engine light". I think I'll start throwing money at it! That'll cure it!!!

I love this bike... 10 cents a mile for valve adjust... $600 dollars in tires every 7000 miles plus that random piece of carbon and ti... Nice!

Man,
I wish I got that kinda mileage outta my tires.
Now that you mention it, it's alot more than that... 4 X $150 for rears and a front or two at $125 a pop...That's more like $900... Even better!

I love my 999 and am going to keep it but the lack of dealer support in my area and this reliability issue pissed me off. Next week I'm getting another bike (GSXR1000, CBR1000rr or another Hayabusa) for a spare.

I'm no closer to resolving this electrical gremlin so I'll let the dealer sort it out when it goes in for a valve adjust week after next. I did get my spare though... Went with the GSXR1000. Great bike but not a Ducati 999S. It's OK though...I figure there are Ferrari owners that have a Toyota for a daily driver! It's like that only different. :) I told my wife I was getting a spare/track bike and was selling her Monster...She's mad at me because she was confused on the order! Women...;)
