Just wondering, for those of you who have had the engine apart, how high does the oil need to get over the sight glass before it plays with the crank or other moving parts and results in bad side effects?

Once the oil is just a little past the mark in the sight glass, sometimes even if it still on the top mark and doesnt look to be over filled, oil will start being pushed out the crank case vent tube into the airbox. Once that happens the oil will enter the intakes and start burning in the engine. If the engine is smoking and there's oil in the airbox its usually because the engine was over filled.

I try to keep my oil right in the middle between the marks and never fill to the top mark. Use a large syringe with a short run of tubing to pull the oil out if you've over filled. You can get them at any farm supply.

If there's no farm supply store nearby, you can use a turkey baster from just about any grocery store...;)
