Went to local Portland Ducati dealer today, MotoCorsa, and bought this tool. BikeMaster Oil Filter Wrench, model 903-2, which is a 74mm x 8 flats for $8 bucks. Filter end type cap with square hole for rachet. Back of package says "Oil Filter Wrench Ducati". Solved my problem of ham fisted mechanic/owner over tightening oil filters. I do not know how to post pictures but if you PM me I will email them to you of the product.

I like this style: oil filter plyers. $8 at Harbor Freight. Many uses for different sized filters.
