Odd GT1000 Symptoms

Went for a fast 250 mile jaunt on the GT this morning. Just before leaving, I set the FatDuc O2 manipulator to full rich at about 13.2 ppm. A few miles down the road, the yellow check engine light came on. Oil temperature and pressure stayed good, and power was just fine. There were no odd noises. I kept going.

At each gas stop, the yellow light be out after the restart, but would quickly come back on. I noticed that engine idle was now 1,200 RPM or so, where before it was always below 1,000. Gas milage fell from about 53 MPG to an even 50.

Has anyone else had like symptoms when running their FatDuc O2 manipulator full rich?

I dialed in a leaner setting on returning, but haven't ridden the bike to check the theory yet.

Mine is set on the delivered setting....the engine check light comes on at cold start up...and goes out when the bike is up to temp.....did you notice any difference running it full rich?

Cheers Roger
Maybe a little off topic...but not too far....
Both times I've had my bike on the track by about the 3rd session the engine light would stay on. Also on for most of the ride home. But the next day/ride was back to normal. I have the termi kit though, so no O2 sensor. Not sure what it's about.
ts - I still haven't got the Fat Duc so may be in over my head here:eek:, but everything I've read in my reseach about the manipulator and the check engine light points to an overly rich idle mixture.

I also see where Fat Duc (Performance Boulevard) suggests it's occasionally necessary to the open the air bleed screws to counter too rich a mixture at idle.
i've had the yellow light come on before when my O2 sensor was unplugged - i'm wondering if the rich mixture is sooting up the sensor or if the full resistance of the fatduc is tripping a fault based on the signal the ecu is getting vs. what it is "expecting"...

only guessing of course

GT - On another thread, Jason with Fat Duc confirms your speculation about the rich mixture sooting the sensor, especially if the bike is left idling for long periods. This is why the light tends to go off once the bike is run at speed because that un-gunks the sensor.
Thanks, guys!

I tweaked the manipulator to a slightly leaner setting and will give it a try. I guess I'll stop tweaking when the check engine light stays out and the idle RPM drops a little.
Hey Guys-

An intermittent CEL has occurred on a few bikes running an O2 Manipulator when set towards the max rich setting. It is due to excess carbon build up on the sensor and usually occurs after long periods of idling or extended low RPM cruising. One thing we discovered during the development of the product is the bike will run richer at idle than during normal operation with the product installed. It's nothing to be concerned about, but even without an O2 Manipulator, you don't want to let the bike sit and idle for 20 - 30 minutes at a time.
