Noco NLP5 fitted to 916

I’ve had a Noco NLP5 battery for a couple of months & only just got round to fitting it to my 916. It is dwarfed by the original battery tray and I’ve strapped it in with a couple of tie wraps till I figure out a bracket . It bolted up ok to the original battery wiring and started the bike no problem. I’d fitted a modem Ducati Mosfet reg a while ago and repaired stator to reg wiring removing some previous owner bodges . I also swapped in new oem cam belts as PO had used cheap car ones & I didn’t fancy testing their longevity when used on the smaller cam wheels, higher rev nature of a desmoquattro compared to car engine use.

Look at the parts book for 996/998 starting in 2001 I believe, maybe 2000 on the R. When they went to the smaller battery size they didnt change the entire tray they fitted a spacer that the battery sat on top of. I still used a zip tie for more security and with the smaller lithiums you will still have to space it but fits nicely.

Ta for info, this one came with a 20mm spacer but it seemed more snug on the bottom of the tray where the little lip is. it’s amazing the difference in weight between this and the heavy original & I no longer have an ugly battery terminal in view through the RHS fairing air duct.

I installed under-fairing crash protection on my track 998 which forced me to switch to a smaller battery. I went with a tiny AG801 which just looked lost on the stock battery tray, so I built this out of aluminium sheet. It also holds the ECU, the MOSFET regulator, starter solenoid, and relays. Much more compact and tucked in than stock, a bit lighter, and it makes things a bit more accessible for maintenance. The tiny battery is an absolute beast but it has no built in BMS, so it has to be treated with care.

I moved my ECU next to the battery when I upgraded to lithium. At the time I fitted an alu subframe without an ecu mount so it all made sense. Haven't crashed it yet... not a great spot for an ecu to be in a right hand slide but hey, the giant battery box fits it perfectly. Sorry for the cruddy picture, it's all I could find.
