That bike in the pic is an ST2. Actually that bike belongs to Terry (DesmoDemon).
The 944 refers to the motor. 944 CC's. I think that Desmo started a trend by putting the 944 stickers on the bike. As far as I know Ducati never labeled the bike with that designation. If you want some more ST2 facts check out this link.
