I just picked up my new sf s.

Talk about light.

I love this thing.

That was almost a haiku.
Congratulations on the SFS. You can easily get the bike 10lbs lighter with slip on mufflers, a lithium battery and by removing some of the emissions BS. Such as the evap canister and the exhaust servo motor.

Yup.

Termis, 14 tooth front sprocket and ECU reprogram and then we'll talk....:D

Congrats.
You could also shed 3 to 4 lbs by joining us in the aluminum tank buy. Doing that before buying those other items would be a better investment in my opinion. We need new SF owners to help out with the group buy. Something to think about.

Glad you like it so much. There are a lot of us who realize how spectacular the SF is. Enjoy!

A better investment??? Is this a joke??

All you want is another person in your group buy!

1600$ to shed 3 to 4 lbs. hahahahahahaah
Here in Canuckistan we don't have ethanol in our premium fuels (yet).

If i had expanding tank problem i would consider an alu tank for sure.
As far as I know the only guaranteed non-ethanol premium is Shell91.

Most 91 and 94 have ethanol up here.

Congrats to Trrn11500!! Enjoy.

Chevron 94 too. Sucks to be in Ontario eh? :)
I have family up in Mississauga.

I have done a few rides up there from jersey on cbr1000f, hayabusa, goldwing

Love the falls on the canadian side.

If I had the choice between $1600 in carbon fiber or a $1600 aluminum fuel tank, a bunch of CNC billet parts, or even an exhaust. I would pick the $1600 aluminum fuel tank as a first addition to the bike. The #1 reason would be to never have to think about ethanol expansion problems. Reason #2 would be to shed another 3 to 4 pounds and to gain another half a gallon of fuel capacity.

Putting $1600 of carbon fiber on the bike will do none of the above except possibly saving a few ounces of weight. So to me the tank is a better investment. Of course I want him to join the group buy. That's why it's called a group buy. We need a certain number of participants to get it done. I'm not even sure where the OP lives. So I'm not sure if he has ethanol free gas available or not. Many of us don't. Up in Canada ethanol free gas is available so maybe it's not a problem for you. I bet you would have a more positive attitude about the aluminum tank buy when they start dumping ethanol in your fuel up in Canada and your tank balloons up. You could always buy an aluminum tank now and beat the system. It's your money. Do what you want with it. And NO, what I said in my earlier post or now is not a joke.

3-4 lbs weight loss up high is actually pretty good.
If I knew for sure that I was gonna stick with the SF for a long time I'd be in.
But I don't see myself keeping it for more than another year or so.

I'm curious. Is it only Ducati that as problem with ethanol or do you see the same problem with suzuki, yamaha, honda etc etc???

The problem was not resolved for the 2012 bikes??

If the bike was a true racing bike i could understand wanting to lose 3 to 4 pounds but this is a streetfighter, not a GP bike.

Try a treadmill you could shave 10 pounds off your body and your woman will be Happy!Happy!Happy!

My 2 cents

It's a bigger problem with the Ducati (especially the Sport Classics and the Sf), because unlike the Japanese superbikes, the tank itself is the major styling element, whereas on the Japanese bikes there is usually a plastic cover over the tank itself - thus you never see if the tank is distorting due to the ethanol fuels.

The way Ducati "resolved"the problem on newer bikes was to use a smaller tank that did not exhibit the problem as readily as did the larger tank.

For pure performance, the best way to spend money is to look for lighter wheels - they have repeatedly been shown to offer the best bang for your dollar. But in terms of a value investment, the alloy tank will be a big selling feature in the future, as it resolves a potential problem in the future.

And you're right - losing ten pounds will likely make you faster, if for no other reason than you're more fit!
