Well I'm back from a 2000+ mile vacation riding the 99 ST4. from Mass to Nova Scotia and got to ride the Cabot Trail! It truly is an epic ride.

My only problem popped up last night on the last 12 miles or so. My Neutral light is on constantly. One of the 1st things i was told about the ST's was the neutral light has nothing to do with the gear position...Well seems to be true now...
So couple of quick questions.
1) Does the ECU look at the light for selecting a timing and fuel curve? (i know modern bikes do.)

2) Whats the fix?

Could this have anything to do with the fact i washed the bike earlier in the day? Maybe bulk head connector got wet?
It will be raining most of the week so I'll have time to look at it...

The neutral light is just a light signaled by the switch and connector on the back of the crank case, left side. The connector can become loose, or you might have water in there.

AFAIK, the neutral light switch does nothing within the ECU.

Have a good one.

You're welcome.

I shall say nothing about gizmos that stop us from doing stupid things. =) But dammit, I just love the simplicity of these bikes.

Have a good one.

Mine softly glows no matter what gear I am in. Depending upon how industrious I am and I have been known to be at times, if I pull the switch out from the housing and clean the contacts, it behaves itself, but over time and being close to the road, it will start to glow again. This glow is not to be confused with being brightly lighted when actually in neutral. 2000 ST4
