this past week was the first rain free one in the ca bay area in a long time, at least since i picked up my black sport 1000.

it was been just sitting in my garage week after week, and finally emerged from its batcave. :p

its got the 2into1 ti termi's and i did a compromise on cleaning up the tail fender.

the evo kit really just didn't look like it gave enough clearance after i installed it, and with other comments from peeps here who had trouble with theirs, i decided to scrap it. i did however cannibalize the evo plate frame to make my own mount which i drilled and tapped directly on to the SS extender bar. i chopped a few inches off tghe extender and was able to move up the plate quite a bit over stock position. i mounted a LED light bar on the plate frame and re-wired. the plastic fender i took off completely.

while not the most reduced set up for the rear, it is a sight better than right off the showroom floor. i would call this the reduced fat tail chop. ;)

anyways, this bike sounds great, runs better. still getting glaze off the tires, but i love this thing. :D

Very Nice Bike, Mister

Attaboy Otter X. Now that's a machine. Careful, don't stare at it whilst riding or you may up inadvertently changing the rake on frontend! ;)

Something funny about these Sport 1000s. I can honestly say that it is the only bike model I can remember where I thought all of the available colour schemes looked just great. Really, of the three, I can't argue that one appeals to me more than the other. They all look fantastic. The black is great with the black frame - very Vincent Black Shadow-ish in a way that really works with the retro theme. The yellow is extra nice for historical reasons, and maybe also because that is the colour the protoype was, so now it just looks right to me. And of course the red is red, and red always looks right on a Duc. Every time someone posts a picture of their Sport here, I am thinking "yes, that looks just right".

*sigh* Anyone want to lend me CDN$13,995? I think I can spring for the Termi myself.

Thats like $5 bucks US right? I'll go hit the change jar for the cause.

Personally, I think yellow is the only way to go. When I first made my reservation, there was no choice. Even beyond that, I think the yellow is the best looking of the bunch. Not a fan of the red at all, the black does look nice (especially with that 2-1), but the yellow pulls the whole retro thing together perfectly. Black with a gold stripe might tickle me a little better...

On the other hand, I'm not a real big fan of the GT...but, that GT in red is sweet.

I really like that bike.... I've attached a photo mod of the tail lights & license bracket that might appeal to all you outlaws!

P.S. I hadn't seen the Termi on a black model before. Would you mind posting another view if it's not too much trouble?

Cheers!

I agree that the Sport looks right in all 3 colors. At first I thought that only Yellow looks right, but red and black are also great. Black brings the classic cafe-racer look back.
I have to disagree on the "very Vincent Black Shadowi-ish" That's a whole different category.

OtterX, have you considered black powder-coating for your clutch cover? Goes very well with the cafe-race-image. Congrats with your fantastic bike.

actually putting on a speedymoto clutch cover, plate, SS springs and caps. also got the rizoma timing belt covers on the way too.

any aftermarket parts i put on will be billet. no carbon fiber on this bike. :p

Otter your black sport looks fabulous. I getting "this" close to ordering one myself.

I have attached a pic of of a cafe racer built by Ton up in California, a site that has really struck my fancy. He uses Honda 750's as a base but their no Ducati's for sure.

Nice choice in color and exhaust look good however I think if and when I get the black I'll opt for that radical Zard, just my taste.

Off topic, would I be out of line if I said that a sort of belly pan may look good to mainly hide the lower pipe?

thanks man. :)

i've been adding my mods to it here and there since i picked it up. just replaced the clutch cover, pressure plates, springs the other night. also put on the frame sliders to protect the bike from errant city car parkers.

that's a cool looking bike you've got picture there too. ;)

i really dig the retro styling on these new ducs. while i might be adding on some modern billet, i won't go in an antithetical direction and add on carbon fiber on this bike.

i like alot of the old school japanese bikes too. my girlfriend has been looking for just the right honda dream 305.

this is a great looking one i saw on the web and these are good bikes for gals.

i've been riding vintage or classic bikes almost exclusively until 2004.

this is my other ride.

its a 1967 BMW R69S. wasn't running when i picked it up 6 years ago. been slowly working on it since. its been on and off the work stand, but its almost finally done. just getting the pistons and rings redone and she'll be excellent.

when i bought my first new bike in 17 years, it was in 2004 and a black ducati m800.

when the sport classics were announced and i saw it for the first time, i promptly put my deposit down at the dealer.

it is such a sweet bike. sure there are other bikes out there which "perform" better, better priced, but that's not why we chose this sport classic. :p

the zards look cool, a very modern take on "cafe racer" exhausts. my first choice if i could have it would be repro conti's for my sport classic, but no one has made such a system yet.

this is a project i read about here in this forum which makes a very cool imola project and they have repro conti's included:

they're based in australia and their kits can be built around modern ducati monsters 600 and up. wish there was someone here in the US who offered such kits.

i would love to get an imola style fairing on my sport classic. that would be my final touch. it would require some moderate tweaking to refit the head lamp assembly though. not sure how to work that out short of welding mounting brackets on the steering tube.

sure whould look cool though!

:D

pull the trigger on your sport classic, you'll be broke, but stoked and never look back! :p :D
