well yesterday i finally got the rear wheelon my bike that i bought at a local bike salvage yard, ive had it running in the garage off and on for about 2 months now while tracking down parts and yesterday finally got to test ride.
at first she ran great but as i got back to the house she started sputtering and stalled and now wont fire back up the plugs were fairly dark so i cleaned em up just to test (sunday no ones open on easter cant get new ones yet)
has anyone had this problem or have any ideas? it is making spark and is making compression, and yes it has fuel in the tank and fuel is on

Stale fuel? Water in fuel tank? Pinched fuel line? What model? Carby or injected? What else have you messed with besides the wheel? Come on give us a few clues.

its a 96 900ss and all ive done was to replace some turn signals and i would have thought i had somthing grounded out but the signals work, after further trouble shooting and forum searching i think its the battery which is actualy only about a month old but dosnt seem to want to hold a charge.... fortunatly i just got hired at the ducati dealer as a service advisor so when i start on friday i hope to get to the root of the problem

I would start with fuel. Check wiring connector to fuel pump ( mine vibrated off before and just died simular to what you stated). Is the pet-cock open? Check for clogged or kinked fuel lines. Check the filter, check "the plumbing" in the tank. Move on to carbs. Check for dirt/ varnish clogging the jets ,is it properly jetted/properly adjusted? etc...etc. No offense by the obvious, even the BEST of mechanics can have a brain fart once in a while.
