Rear wheel/sprocket carrier bearings are go south. Is the rear axle of the '00 Monster the same as my '99 or larger? Or, does someone have the numbers (not Ducati's pn) for a '99 handy?

I think they changed from a 17mm axle to the later 25mm? when they swapped from carbs to fuel injection after that it remained the same for the models life as a normal swing arm model. So same bearings across the 25mm rear axle bikes. Ps i think carbs were last sold/made in 1997 my of monsters.

M900 started FI in '00. M750 before that. But, I digress. I think you are correct about the carb/FI/bearing size correlation. Anyhow, I guess I'll be taking the rear apart to get the numbers.

Not sure when they changed from 17mm to 25mm but carb Monsters (600) were made as late as '99.

Note that ally swingarm (900) uses a longer rear axle than the steel swingarm models (600/750) due to the arm being wider.

Had the rear off my '00 M900S ie today (Jap import to Aus)

Rear bearings are L&R 17x47x14 6303 Ducati pn 75163.3268
Cush drive bearings are 25x47x12 6005 Ducati pn 75162.2566

Bought it last week with 15500k on it, and wow does it handle. Wanted a Monster for 20 years and finally got one. Is 100 times better than I expected.

Just an fyi, I ended up pulling the wheel (original, 5.5") off before ordering anyway (weather precluded riding) and found:

6203 2RS (40 x 17 x 12)
6005 2RS (47 x 25 x 12)

glad I had the time to check. got all new SKF stuff sitting on my bench waiting for install.

just goes to show you cant be too careful, as an aside and it may be useful indicator, does yours have the 3 spoke wheels with the wider spoke blade at the rim or the later "narrow(er)" 3 spokes where the spoke blade tapers (a little) to the rim? I have a suspicion the narrow spoke wheels are the later bearing sizes .

Must have changed bearings from 99 to 00. Maybe a diff wheel.

Sent from my iPhone using MO Free
most likely changed that year and went to wider bearings.

indeed, 'wide' spokes, not the 'narrow' design.
