I saw this bike up close and even though it's a genuine racing Ducati it's in rough shape. But again it's a well used race bike, not a new Duc right from the factory.
Buit that motor done by the man himself would be almost worth the price of admission!:)

Matt only rode the "new for that year" 996RS, that bike has a 955 with a 900SS crank (984) so has no collector value. A 984 would never have been legal in AMA so even the year before when Pegram and Higbee raced for FBF they were on 955's or 955's bored to 996. The 996Rs's were about 165HP on a Dynojet Dyno and a 984 about 145HP.

Yes, the 916R was a 97 and 98 model so maybe that is a 996RS engine, should not be advertised as a 984 then. The 955's did not have a deep sump extension, only internal oil baffleing. The RS's used bolt on extensions thru 2000 and were mag by then.

170 HP 916 = grenade. ;) Nice for the living room, but not something I'd ever try to actually ride.
I was thinking the same thing. The owner says he was planning on club racing with it, but it seems like the maintenance cost would be stratospheric.
