Maintenance Indicator

1618 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  galaxy
I just had the 600 mile break-in service done on my '05 999 (amazing machine!). I brought the bike in at 611 miles. After picking-up the bike the Maintenance Required indicator started blinking at 620 miles.
I am assuming the indicator is programed to go off at a certain mile marker and that there is nothing wrong with my bike.

Is this a safe assumption? Also, is there some way I can turn the indicator off or do I have to bring it back to the dealer for them to turn it off?
Thanks,
Hopper

p.s. the indicator did not go off at 600 miles. 620 was the first time.

The maintenance indicator is designed to turn at on and stay on at pre set service intervals. I'm not sure about the imperial bikes, but on the metric ones it set at 1000km, 10000km and so forth. Its one of those stupid things only the dealer can turn off after hooking it up to the Ducati diagnostics.
On my '02 S4 you hold down the trip meter button while turning on the ignition key. Call your dealer.
Even if your bike is set up for imperial/miles, the wrench comes on based off kilometers...doesn't matter.

600 km's = 620 +- miles
10,000 km's = 6,250 +- miles

No, on these bikes you can't turn it off...have to take it in so they can plug in the Mathesis to turn it off, but it doesn't affect anythng. Mine's been on for 2,000 miles now! Dealer is 96 miles away and not gonna make a special trip for that.
the holding down the trip button while turning the key to on clears it for the 05 SS as well, I assumed it was a standard thing for any recent model. theres a slight pause before the gauges cycle, then they cycle and the maintenance indicator is cleared. I'd check the manual or give this a try befor eriding back to the shop. I just had the same thing happen after my 6k service
Nope...this does not work on ANY of the new SBK's...you have to take it in.
same exact thing happened to my bike and that's what i figured as well since 620 miles = 1,000 km. dealer said they have to pull fairings and do something to reset it, they told me not to worry about it until next oil change not worth pulling CF fairings off for this.

WOW!! Actually sounds like you have a dealer that knows what he's talking about. The plug in for the computer is down around the battery box/electrical center/ECU area...thus the fairings must come off. Last time my bike was in the shop and they had the fairings off, he moved the connector to where he could get to it without pulling everything off. Still have to pull the two bottom screws so he can pull it out far enough to get his hand up in there.
