M50 caliper upgrade on SFS

I searched but couldn't find any info related to the SFS. Has anyone here done an M50 caliper upgrade on their SF/SFS? if so, I have a couple questions.

Did you need to change the brake lines due to length?
What M/C did you use? I'm planning on installing a Panigale M/C but if there's a better option I'm open to ideas.
Did you change your rotors? What brand did you go with?
What brake pads did you use? I'm partial to Ferodo so I'm leaning in that direction.

Thanks!

I'm planning to do the M50 upgrade on my SFS1098.

In 2014-15 I rode a 1199 Panigale and the brakes are notably better working than the the P4 on the 1098 that I rode before.

I'm going with M50 calipers, SBS Dual Sinter pads, Fren Tubo CarboTech SSTK brake lines, RCS17 brake master and Motul BRF 660 brake fluid. I only use my SFS1098 on the tracks.

Beware that the M50 calipers has been designed to be used with a smaller piston size brake master. RCS 17 has been designed to work with the M50 calipers.

TF,

Thanks for the info. Did you need to get different lengths for the Fren Tubo brake lines or will stock length work?

I've started buying my parts, I'll update as I move forward with the project.

As someone who did a M50 swap on a Triumph Daytona & Also a Panigale 1199S owner here is some input.

Calipers mount the same as the M4 monoblocks, use whatever spacers you were previously using.

Your standard brakelines should work just fine, same banjo mounting point.

If your bike does not have ride by wire on the throttle housing, I would recommend trying to find a 2013+ RSV4 brembo master. OR get the Brembo RCS 17 brake master. The Panigale Brembo brake master, is angled at the piston, in order to offset the size of the ride by wire electronics on the bar. The lever length is kinda odd if you use aftermaret levers or plan on using them... can get you some pictures on my 675 to show you what I am talking about. bought a shorty crg lever for it and it is 2 fingers only.

The stock master is pretty damn good! As a whole i feel the M50 give a bit better feedback, the performance per $ is not there IMO when comparing M4 to M50 calipers...

Hello,
i have installed the M50 from a Panigale.
Brake Lines are ok,no need to change.
Rotors are also ok.
BrakePads i use the stock,or Brembo Z04 on track.

I have also changed the brake-pump,i use the Panigale pump.Diameter of piston is different to SFS,with the SF-Pump i had a very radical brake-action.(really too much..)
Greetings from Germany, excuse my bad english.

JD and Idaka,

Thanks for your replies. I did end up going with the Panigale MC as it should be a perfect match for the M50s and will work with the CRG carbon lever I already have. My first batch of parts is arriving next week so once I have everything together I'll document my build.

Ok so my M50s are on the way. Now would like to know is there any specific year(s) Pani that I should be looking for when trying to find a M/C for these calipers. Not sure what year they started using the M50's. Also if you go with the Brembo rcs17 you have to stick with the lever it comes with to utilize the adjustability correct ? Thanks for any help.

I bought a M/C from a 2012 1199S but any of the 1199/1299 M/C should work as the M50s were OEM on the big Panigale from the beginning.

Still waiting for my Ti bolts to come in and then i'll be ready to start my build.

$485 for new M50 calipers
$160 for used Panigale brake M/C
$22 Ti Brembo banjo bolts
$0 reuse stock Streetfighter brake rotors
$79 Ferodo ST brake pads
=$746 + ~$15 for brake fluid.

Not cheap but not horribly expensive for a real performance upgrade, especially if you track the bike (as I do).

My friends that ride Panigales rave about the M50's as the best OEM brakes they've ever used.
