Thinking of buying a Monster for me wife. Sha wants to learn to drive. But she is only 158cm, and thin.

Can the bike fit stock?
Could it fit with lowered seat?
Would it work with seat + suspension lowered?

You should find one to sit on and try out.
Mine is a 1200 but I can easily get both feet flat on the ground at a stop.
I am only about 6 cm taller, with 73-74 cm inseam, which I think is a more important measurement in this case.

Skip the 696 go one or two generations earlier. The prior monsters (620,695,750,800,s2r,900,1000) all could use a lowered link in the rear and many came adjustable from the factory. The 620 monsters had a shorter seat and a fixed ride height rod in the rear but it is easily swapped for an adjustable version. The 696 version uses a low tech rear suspension that has no linkage so you would need a shorter shock.

A 620/750 or s2r800 would make a fine bike for her.
