Went into work today and from a stop I stalled the bike. I looked down and it said 3rd gear weird as it wouldn't go down any further. I was able to shift into 4th 5th and 6th on the free way but wasnt able to go down to 4th. Get to work and it sits for 10 hours and now I can do 4th and 5th but not 6th. I still don't have 1,2 or 3rd gears. I just did a fluid flush of brakes and clutch 2 days and about 150 miles ago. I need help asap please.

Probably the return spring broken. It's a common problem with Ducati.
+1. They are good for about 20K miles and then they fail. When I first got my bike with just a couple of miles on it, a local indy told me the shift return spring would fail at 20K miles and it did. It's a weak link/design common to several Ducati models - not just the Multistrada. Way to go Ducati. :(

22830, i just put a new battery and changed the fluids. I thought maybe i had done the clutch fluid wrong, but yea it probably is the spring. I was quoted 597 to do it at a shop in SF. I am going to try and see where else there is to go. On my evo I had advanced cycles do it, but they were closed so Ill have to call tomorrow.

A creative/experienced shop will have a "hook in the ceiling" above their service stand to suspend the bike over at enough of an angle so the oil doesn't have to be drained when pulling the side covers to change these springs. (That is of course if the oil doesn't need changing anyway.) Saves some time and a fair percentage of the job's cost.

I went to Nichols Sport Bikes – nicholssportbikes.com - 913 Hanson Court, Milpitas, CA 95035 - 1-408-945-0911 - about 4 years ago.

It cost me $200 for the tow (from my garage where the spring fortunately broke) + $300 for labor + $5 for the spring

Yeah, that's what I said too. :(

I usually do my own work, but this required a special tool (if I recall correctly???) I didn't have at the time and I was feeling lazy so I took the beating.

It's a frightening thing to know that spring could break while out on a trip. It would suck to have it break off in the mountains somewhere. :(

As I'm approaching 40K miles - and the spring is apparently only good for 20K miles - I'm thinking about replacing the spring as a precautionary measure so I don't get stranded somewhere. Could be a winter project.

I am going to go to Nichols as well, I was going to go to advanced but they were slightly more, and they are so backed up it would take until middle of next week. Nichols can get it back by the end of the week. So i will be heading there. He quoted off the phone 375.

It's a small world after all. I was at Nichols getting a tire put on just minutes after you called. William told me after I inquired about doing the job myself. Too funny.

Good idea changing springs at valve/desmo service to avoid any problems a long way from home.

Thats awesome he said something about the guy i was talking to had just left, i dropped it off around 11. Kind of bummed he said he could do it by friday on the phone, but that it would probably be early next week. o well. how much is a new rear tire? he said i should get one sooner rather than later. I figure I was going to try and sell it this past weekend before the clutch. But if i fix the clutch and have him reset that pesky oil light maybe ill ride it for a few more thousand miles

Mine is 2013 MTS PP and 26K.I ve no problem like you said but is always difficult to shifting if I do not open the throttle. What service told me is, because MTS lay down about a year and clutch plates is not good to friction so system does not function good for a while. If I rode like 3-5k than will be better.I already rode 2k but looks a little better.Still waiting. But not happy for shiffting at all.Or I ve to replace all clutch plates etc which cost around 500$:(

William fixed it up fast. It was done on Thurs, and I picked it up today. He sold me on a new rear tire soooooooooo that 375 otd, went otd and it became 700:nerd::nerd:. But hopefully I can now sell it, since 22,5 service is done, new tire and bat and clutch springs. Hopefully I can find somebody to give me 9.5 for it.
