Ok since moving to West Texas I have found that there are no good back roads to ride around here with out making an overnighter out of it, but there is an alternative. Mini bike racing on go-kart tracks is a pretty big thing out here. There is a go-kart track about 10 minutes from my house that will let you ride up to a 50cc bike on their track. The way it works is you pay a $100 a year membership fee and they give you a key to the gate. The track is a little less than 1/2 mile long and has 11 turns. Its pretty tight so I am looking to get a 50cc bike that has 12inch wheels. I have looked and the Honda NSR50 and I also have done some reading on the Metrakit 50. does anyone have any info or experience with either or both of these bikes?? Or know of any other race bike like this?? Right now I am leaning towards the Metrakit just because it looks better.

I've seen some guys on the local twisty mountain roads with their Aprilia RS50's and Derbys. I think you'll have a blast playing with one.....BTW, there is a 75cc kit for the Aprilia RS50 that is really supposed to wake it up.

yea I really like the Aprilia and derbis, and the cagiva. They look like little ducatis. The only problem with those bike is that they all have 17 inch wheel. I think it would be too much to handle on these small tracks. I know the metrakit can be converted, the only difference is the wheels and fenders. Im not sure about the others though.

There was one of those on eBay a few years ago where the guy stuffed a YZ250 engine in it. A local mechanic at one of the bike shops used to race a YSR with a modified Honda XR100 engine in it.

there is a small treasure trove of information and parts sourcing and stuff here...

Up here in Greater Sack-o-Tomatoes there's a club racing group called SMRRA who races 50's in Stockton. Actually there are classes for "small-wheel" 50's, XR100's, and various and sundry other stuff. They used to race at Prairie City near Sacto, and when they did I actually visited a couple of times and borrowed a guys YSR once. IT WAS A HOOT!!! I wanted so badly to buy a bike and start racing, but it just wasn't in the cards.

If I had a big bag o'cash, I'd start this spring. Only I wouldn't buy a YSR or a Derbi or one of Calamari's "Yerbi" hybrids. I might get an RS50, but more likely I'd run one of these, just because I think they're so cool:

Honda Dream 50

Yes, they're available from Honda dealers in the US, but only in race trim -- no lights or stuff, and you can't register them. I think they're about $3500 brand spankin' new.
