Is this the "Fishmonger's" Bike?
Hello

I agree, very nice bike, but that "perhaps best in the Nation" is maybe a bit presumptious....

JMHO....

Well he did say "perhaps." :)
I am just a few coins short right now and I am on the fence as whether to just blow up my budget and go for it. I would have to have it shipped and do the whole deal sight unseen which is a bit un-nerving for me.
It really is a sweet bike. Gary Grant used to own it, he's a large luxury yacht designer, used to very high standards. The engine is a beast, very fast but quite well behaved. The bike has a ton of high-end upgrades. I rode with Gary on a ride or two and it was not lacking for performance. Fred (fishmonger, indeed) bought it a few years back and made even more classy tweaks, put on some good miles an smiles. I think he's getting to the point where more upright comfort would suit his body, else he'd keep this pearl.

Yea' I agree, some real nice ones out there. Take a look at Phillips, or LT's or Corbin's ST4S's. Even some board members have carbon fairings and wheels, suspension upgrades, ect. I understand one rider even installed a 1098 in his.
The one in the ad is a nice bike though. I'm sure the buyer would be plenty happy.

When do you really think a nicer one will come around again?
If it is what you are looking for, PG has given the bike a good endorsement.
I don't know the bike. I don't know the seller.

I did have an ST4s that was gone through by FbF, with FbF exhaust and a custom mapping on a power commander. That was, and is, one smooth, powerful motorcycle so now I trust their work. I recently sold it and the person who bought it got a great deal.
This seems like a pretty nice, though expensive, bike.
Why should it be so expensive? Because you pay for the work of specialists. Seems like a close-to-reasonable price considering the nature of the changes on the bike. What is actually reasonable is between the owner and the buyer.
I couldn't give a darn about the names of the owners. No offense to them, but I wouldn't be buying a person- just a piece of machinery.
The one thing about this ST that cannot be expressed in an advert is the sound. As I've said in the past, it just sounds angry.

It is a beautiful machine that I wish was in the cards for me as a weekend bike. Sadly, not so (darn kids).

If anyone is considering it, I can vouch for both Fred and the immaculate condition of this ST.

Have a good one.

Yes, it was worked on/modified by professionals, and there's a lot of extra, high quality component upgrades too. However, in my experience, extra aftermarket items do not increase resale that much, sometimes BB's are frowned upon, because you have to find the right buyer who thinks like the seller. In this case, most of the upgrades seem what most owners might or want to do, plus it's pristine. But you are right, it's expensive, and the seller is right, it's worth it. :)

(So, "literally a ton of Moto Guzzis." You have 2? :) )
Thanks for the kind words guys. She really is a special bike.

As for her position in the ST hierarchy, it is subjective of course, and I did say "perhaps". Also, I admitted to prejudice. There are a lot of fine ST's out there, but the best ones do not come on the market often as was pointed out.

Paul, I am glad you have personal knowledge of Gary and the bike and I appreciate your posting up. Though they are machines, people build, maintain, and use them. I think it helps a buyer to know that shortcuts were not taken, and the bike was well cared for and carefully ridden. Both Gary and I are in our mid 60's and we do not do things second rate, or abuse what we spend our money on.

Only the best parts and fluids have been used on the bike, and will continue to be until sold. When it needs attention it will get it. I will not knowingly pass along problems to the buyer. I only ask that he respect this fact in dealing with me.

In that regard, the content keeps growing, as do the miles since I plan to keep riding her until sold. I just replaced the battery with a new Yuwasa, and have ordered from Motowheels a new 15 tooth front, a 43 tooth rear Supersprox, and a DID 525 XVM-X Gold Chain. The sprockets are still good, but I always change them with the chain. I will save the 42 tooth rear to give the new owner. I have been wanting to try a 43 tooth rear on her.

If you have read all these posts you can likely dismiss the "sight unseen" factor. Between Paul, Tony and Fishmonger (the seller) we have been provided a glowing review, much better than you would likely get from a mechanic pre-sale check. I say "blow the budget".
If there are interested parties, please PM seller. :) Thread now closed. :)
