i was wondering if any of you guys had a run in with a ktm smp. they are supposed to be a far better bike than the hyper but i doubt that

A little quicker in the tight stuff anything less than real tight and the Hyper has the advantage. I ride in the mountains with 3 KTM SMC and one other Hyper.

It seems that is the case with most of the true mega motards out there.. The have a slight power to wieght ratio advantage because they are lighter than the hyper... all this adds up to being more flickable in the super tight stuff.
Just plan a ride that is about a 300 to 400 mile day through some twisties... by the end of it you will know why the hyper is better!
