Just picked up a GT1000

Hey guys, I have been wanting a sport classic for awhile now. My Monster 821 was stolen right before covid, but found a GT1000 at what I thought was a great price, couldn't help myself. 2007, had a little over 5,000 miles on it. Needs a bit of cosmetic work, something hot was near the headlight and deformed the plastic cover. Looks like a few scraps on the right bar end and bottom of the front forks and some bubbling of paint on the brake reservoir caps. Couple deep nicks in the paint of the gas tank, and scrapes on the front fender are the biggest issues. Have a few questions, I can hear a rattle coming from the right exhaust but not sure it is the exhaust, and it seems the bushings holding the gauge cluster move around quite a bit. Anyone know of a fix, or is it common? Was last ridden in 2017 from what I was told at the dealer. Came from a collector who sold all his bikes before moving over seas. No prior paperwork on the bike, but the dealer said they did a full desmo service on it before the sale.

I think you still need to give it a good old fashioned italian tune up...
Take the belt covers off and check them to make sure.

And here comes the mods list lol

Ha, planning on it this Sunday.

Took a look at it, seems it has YSS rear shocks. Going to clean it in a few hours and really give it a look over. I'll see if I can get a clip of the sound, see if it is familiar to anyone.
Welcome & nice find. Even the front turn signal stands are original!

Personally, I would go over everything before riding much. Age related problems can be bad. Looks to me like something happened & though cosmetically not too bad, there may be bigger hidden problems.

Regardless, enjoy the ride.
Get a detailed list from the dealer of what the "full demo service" covered. What was checked and what was replaced. Then inspect whatever they did not supposedly check.

I asked about it at the dealer, wouldn't hand over paperwork because they said the prior owner's name was on it, and couldn't reveal it. I know the dealer said they changed fluids, and belts since it seemed to have been sitting since 2017. The sales guy got the paperwork their service department performed and read it to me, but wouldn't let me look at it. I'm not afraid to work on my own bikes, but does anyone know a good Ducati service place near NYC? Would rather get it looked at by someone who knows exactly what they're doing first. Also came with new Rosso 3s front and rear.

Does anyone know where I can order some touch up paint? There are a few nicks on the tank that went through all the paint.
Wow, I’d kinda forgotten what a stock GT looks like! Nice score and enjoy the ride, the yss shocks are a nice improvement.

I’d push back on them to give you the paperwork. They could easily provide you a copy with the previous owners name crossed out. Not giving you a copy of what service they did is ridiculous, I’ve always gotten a copy when buying used from a dealer.

Reach out to Mark at Brooklyn Moto. He’s the best and I trust him with all my Ducatis. I like to do my own work also if I can but he’s always willing to offer advice if you’re ever stuck on something.

Nice!
Yes, seems they could black out the original owner's information on the paperwork. That heat deformation is strange.. hopefully they can explain what happened with that. I'd echo a visual (at least) on the timing belts. Super simple to pull the covers.

Welcome and enjoy your GT1000!

Will do, I got it at Ducati NYC. I was a bit excited and overlooked the age of the tires. Turns out they were from 2012, but looked brand new. I am guessing this bike was barely ever ridden. All's well that ends well though, caught a nail in the rear so I decided to replace them with Rosso 4s. Ihave the metal headlight housing opposed to the plastic one for an '07 as well. Here are some pictures I took of the major imperfections. Turns out the plastic holder for the throttle cable is cracked. Anyone know of a place to order a new one?

Agree with @callaweii on the paperwork. WTF? Have them copy the stuff w the PO name covered. WTF? You should have that history for the bike, no questions asked, end of story.

Felicia Hancock at Cross Country Ducati has been very helpful getting parts for the newish Ducatis. Ducati & BMW Motorcycle Dealer | New Jersey | Cross Country Cycle

Show up with the part number from here:
Oem-bike-parts.com - EPC - Exploded drawings genuine parts catalog for motorcycles, scooters, ATVs and waverunners.

Get the throttle part, yes, but don't worry about it for now if it works. Make sure the critical stuff is in order for a test ride - nothing bent, broken, missing, hanging off or leaking.

Here the pre ride list
Oil check
Tire pressure and condition
Brakes and brake lights work
Clutch works
Handlebar controls work
Lights
Chain adj
Check anything loose/missing - brakes, axle nuts, muffler, foot pegs, handlebars, levers

Short ride and then check it all again

par for the course for Ducati NY. Ducati Omaha is good for parts as well. Find the part number from link above or here and look on ebay as well.
Having found mud/muck in many master cylinders, Flush/change the clutch and brake fluids. It's often neglected but very important.

All of that is good from what I can tell, are there supposed to be little rubber washers/spacers between some of the cooling fins on the motor? I'll take a picture today of it, but thought it was weird to have them there. I think it has an aftermarket plate holder, because everytime I go over a bump, it hits the taillight on rebound. I'm planning on getting the bike to 100% mechanically, then working on the cosmetic defects.

@callaweii I will most likely reach out to BK Moto for a post purchase inspection. I have my list of mods in my head, but those can wait unless they are QOL, from what it seems the rectifier is at the top of my list. I guess I could get the tank sealed, doubt it has been done. Anything else preventative that I should do?

From the looks of things online, I will probably try to source a pair of wheels first, as those seem the hardest to find from my albeit brief search.

I believe they are supposed to dampen the sound of the fin resonating. They often just fall out. Sounds like you have the Dpcars/Palotov tail tidy that eliminates the rear fender and mounts the taillight & indicators upside-down under the seat. The tire hitting the taillight is a known issue with that style of tali tidy.

I got home from a ride today, and I thought the bike sounded a bit weird at idle. Is this kind of uneven idle normal? The bike wasn't too hot, around 250 F. I ordered the rectifier and Triumph kit. Should be able to replace it next week.

Looks like the Palotov after a bit of inspection, good looking out.
