I'm starting to see a lot of 1998 ST2 in the $3500-$4500 range, especially if they've got a few miles on them (over 20,000). The charging system is unique to the 1998, and problematic. The voltage regulator and the stator are different than other years. Most people relocate their voltage regulators, to try to keep them from burning up. Mine is actually mounted on top of my open-top air box. When even stuck in traffic, it gets air flowing over it (in 21k miles, I've been through two voltage regulators and a stator with my 1998). Despite the electrical issues, the 1998 has the better, adjustable suspension over the newer model ST2 bikes. I'm quite pleased with my 1998 ST2.....It's only left me stranded three times....fortunately two of them were in the driveway.
