I have looked all over the net and never found anything for less than MSRP. You get what you pay for. I have their Triple, Pressure Plate, Clutch Cover and Crankcase cover. Their products are top notch. Bite the bullet and just get it!
i haven't been on here long enough for you to realize how cheap i am :)
Check with Motowheels.

Sorry my friend, then you bought the wrong brand of bike! :yeah:
don't get me wrong. i'm not scared to spend a little money. i'm just surprised that everyone sells this stuff for MSRP. isn't it supposed to be a "suggested retail price"?
It is suggested.
It is followed.
It is sold.

Easy logic.
guess i'll have to get on the phone and do some negotiating. i am always getting deals on my porsche parts.
Sign up on the Motowheels website (left hand column-under the log in box) as a member of Ducati.MS. We will send you passwords for discounts on everything including Speedymoto....We stock Speedymoto, so we generally ship the same day.
Lookin for Speedymoto under retail? .......
Would you like some CycleCat with that :D

Just kiddin man .... well actually I'm only 90% kiddin ... motowheels will give ya nice break! Most everyone would rather die then give you more than 10% off though.

Nice Porsche plug.............but you already said you were cheap! :D :D
Frugal would be a better word then :D

All kidding aside, and the porsche community is notorious for the Pcar tax :) A set of nice mufflers for a corvette $800. A set of mufflers for Porsche $1500-2000. I'm sure there wasn't any more technology or parts that went into the Porsche mufflers. There are at least three companies that make rear wings for my model porsche that start at $5K. That's just retarded, but people pay it for a piece of fiberglass.

I think most of the companies that make this stuff just size up their customers and price it according to their suspected income, regardless of how much margin there is in a product. With the porsche stuff, if you shop around a bit, you can usually get at least 10 to 20 percent below MSRP. Looks the Dbike tax is worse :) I'm not sure why nobody does less than MSRP on ducati parts. I can only assume there are limited manufacturers and the whole supply/demand thing. I guess there isn't enough competition in the marketplace to force them to be more aggressive in the pricing. I just find it strange that you can go site to site, and everybody has the same price. This is kind of like dealing with OPEC :)

Okay, now that I've talked about porsche a bit, I just can't help myself so here's a pic of my other "996" . It's an 02 996, supercharged, full exhaust, coilovers, sway bars, 19's, blah blah blah. Had it for around 3 years now. It's making around 425 to the wheels. Fun car.

Full system for my 600RR $699. Full system for Ducati $3,000? WTF is that? Deputy Dog is right, its obvious the "sizing syndrome" takes place so does supply and demand. In my business I call it the "wow price". If we come out with a new product and the initial feedback is "wow!" then the we know the price should be higher. I play that game with distributors all the time, they know not to get too excited about new products we offer. I've gotten to the point where I know whether a product will support a certain price point without taking it to a customer for feedback. Fun mind games we play.

The best you can do is perhaps wait till a shop has an open house, etc. I tend to do most of my major parts and accesory purchases at this time. Most decent places usually will have some kind of discount during this event, maybe save 10% or so on each item.

How many 600rr's will be sold? How many 999's?

The cost of development (R&D) for a system can be spread out amongst the many more thousand Hondas that will be outfit with aftermarket exhausts than relatively small-market Duc's.

How many Vette's are sold? How many different years and models of cars can that muffler bearing be amortized amongst? What kind of R&D is needed ? We're talking 'bout a pushrod V8, right :D ? Some of those questions might point to the 800$ price tag for that car's widget, while the same questions should be looked at to your 9xx Porsche... yeah I can hear it already, "a 911 and it's variants have been around for 30 some-odd years too"....

Not trying to bust anyone's balls here, just think out loud why stuff cost's what it does. :)

I don't buy it. I'm in manufacturing/sales and it has a lot to do with what you can get, supply and demand and the wow factor. Why do Cadillac parts cost more than a Chevy? Its because Cadillac owners will pay more.

John, You sell microfiber towels, drying clothes, and polishing pads...that is a huge market in comparison to Ducati parts or even Porsche market ( I owned a wheel/tire and accessory warehouse for import cars in the 80's before it got popular-- so I have a little experience with this).

Make a set of wheels for a 2001 900SS. Do the development work, make a huge run to make the set-up and R&D worthwhile. See how many you sell in a year. Check to see how many are still on the shelf to see if you have broken even yet. Do the same thing with a GSXR1000. Now do the same thing for a Porsche and then a Chevy. You will find that production run sizes and demand makes a difference in inventory turns and production runs.

Granted some of the stuff that you get through Ducati must go through several levels of distribution before it gets to the consumer. Most of the products are imported using a very weak dollar. I know what this stuff costs and how small the actual margins are. I don't see many people getting rich in the motorcycle business. I see a lot of Ducati dealers closing down because they can't do the volume to support the small margins. Most are just getting by.

My friend asked me how big the Ducati market was while we were at a basketball game. I looked around at the huge crowd and said: "how many people here do you think rides sport bikes here? How many do you think rides a Ducati?" I think less than half of the people in that crowd know what a Ducati is...let alone own one. Now how many people in that crowd do you think I can sell a set of Ducati 900SS wheels too? GSXR1000 wheels? How about Chevy wheels? How about about microfiber towels?

Ducati is a niche market within a Niche. Parts are more rare for these bikes than you think. No one with any business sense is going to make a bunch of parts to put on a shelf with such a small market. If you are looking for aftermarket parts, there are less than a handful of people in this country that even know anything about those parts and only a small fraction of those people that actually stock it.

Probably because you were at a KINGS game. :p

Being new to sales, customers and supply/demand, this thread is interesting.
