Or is it to mundane a job for such an exotic?

If your job is a moto gp driver sure =)

if you live in nj like me=death wish lol
If we're talking about NE NJ, where I grew up, then riding any bike is a "death wish." Riding down there (for us "up" in New England) just plain sucks.

Yes, los angeles traffic, 35 mile distance, took me anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes.

OK, you guys with iron asses and eyes behind your heads win. Go ahead, commute from here to China, no problem. I suppose we can end this thread with "it all depends on who you are."

It does actually. My 999 was comfortable on my ass, Im 6' 3" 155 lbs. My wrists took a bit of time to get used to it and the numbness passed in a week. I guess if you are willing to get through it then it will do. But like I said, there are many many other bikes more suited.
maybe im a freak but my 749 is totally comfortable..i'm 6'3" 220...I use grip pads on the tank so sore wrists are not an issue. On the 996 which I use for long country rides I have bar risers and its super comfortable.

i dont understand the 'torture rack' thing everyone talks about.
but then again..I rode a rigid chopper for years and years so to me these ducati's are like super easy to ride.

haha yea north central jerz...bedminster...i used to live in westwood...im getting to the point where i dont know where to ride without almost getting run over...or not wishing was at the track im so fearful now lol haha...maybe i should take a road trip...but yea...nj sucks for riding bikes..but i love bikes so what can you do
i'm about 6'2", 215 and i find my 749 super comfortable...the seat disperses weight better than the sofa cushion of a seat from most bikes. i'd say that if the roads are nice and/or twisty, do it. otherwise, hell no because those valve adjustments come quickly with tons of b.s. miles.

You said it pal, your a freak. lol
Especially great to do errands around town on a 916 with a dead battery!!

I have to stop traffic, do running push-starts, and generally annoy the hell out of everyone.

Be smart: park on hills!
commute=fun

why commute on a boring as s**t bike when you can do it on something that will get you there grinning. The 999 is fine for a daily run, if you can ride a bike in traffic you can ride this one.

this bike is fantastic for lanesplitting, the places it can squeeze through are tiny.
cars will get our your way when the hear you coming (providing you termi the bike) , pedestrians will not jaywalk infront of you and you'll get egged on for a mono at every traffic light with a teenager at it.

the only negatives are the hot right leg in summer and the stiff clutch.
im waiting for the ktm rc8 to come out cos its narrower.!!!!

commuting is also the least of your worries, its the weekend rossi impersonating thats where the bike really makes a difference.
My friend smoke two packs of Marlboro Reds per day.

I asked him if he feels bad.

He said "I wouldn't know, I been smoking so long this feels normal to me".

Same with the Ducati.

(Although I rode my friend's R1 and that thing is so smooth and EASY TO RIDE!!)

I use my 749 as a daily driver. Some say that is misuse of the bike. I say: ' if you were married to a supermodel, would you want to bang her every day, or just wait for the weekend? '
I'd buy a Japanese bike to commute on. Buy a Ducati for the weekends. Dirty Ducati's bum me out...............

that depends on if she needed valve adjustments and $50 oil changes to keep everything tight and her gaskets from rotting out. :p what about a fine, consistent japanese chick during the week and then the high maintenance supermodel on the weekend :D
