So I'm at my "local" dealership this morning, same place I bought my bike new in 2005, buying oil and fuel filters and the sales guy tells me they're coming out with a touring version of.........................................the Diavel.

I look at the models on his floor, and he has like 4 new Diavels sitting there, 2 AMGs. (which I like ) And now, they're bringing out a *touring* version of a slow selling, expensive muscle bike as opposed to a real ST?

Ducati's effed. :)

Has anyone other than myself done any long distance touring on a Streetfighter? Properly set up, I think many of you would be surprised by how well it behaves.
If its anything like the Monster then it will do fine. Its motorways that make it a bit miserable. Other than that, strap on a Ventura and go. I did about 3500 miles on one holiday and it did really well. I avoided some of the high passes as they were still covered in snow and the Autobahns were a bit tough ....trying to keep up with a K1300s that had a flame thrower like the afterburner of a jet fighter was impossible.
how does this sound?
- 1200cc twin
- dry clutch
- sportbike fairing and ST-type handlebars
- ABS
- 470lbs fully fueled
- side panniers, 32 liters each
- well under $20,000
Sounds like a hyperstrada or KTM to me.
Nah I think BMW the 1200s is most likely.

The question is not whether a particular bike can tour but whether it excels in all the areas necessary to recommend it as an ST.

I have toured (3000Mls+/2 weeks) several times on small bikes (125 cc) but I am not going to start recommending them as ST's !

In Scotland , on a Sunday , you would be pushed to reliably go out for a decent days' ride in/to the West Coast and get home due to the lack of fuel availabilty alone.

Huh?

Do you mean the ABS, weight and price? Cause that is about all the Hyperstrada or KTM have in common with that list.
Just for the record, my Streetfighter goes further on a tank of fuel than my ST4 does.
That doesn't make any sense, since you're carrying over a gallon less fuel in the SF. It's either a tuning issue or the 955 kit (referencing your username) requires fueling that is out of the norm for STs without internal mods.

For reference, I typically get a minimum of 200mi out of a typical 5gal refuel. That goes up significantly if I'm not commuting.

Have a good one.

What about the newer 'Guzzi Norge? They just pumped a 4V head onto the previous rig, hopefully to instill "sport", but just looking at it, it reminds me too much of a R1200RT. Which, to me, whispers "sport" and screams "TOUR".

This new GT8V is $16K, has luggage, 100hp, around 77 ft# of torque, and weighs about 600# wet.

The low fuel light on my Streetfighter comes on at 130 miles like clockwork no matter how I ride it. I don' tknow the range of an ST4, but I doubt it is less than that.

I like the new Norge. :) Not as sporty as a Ducati for sure, but a nice alternative IMO. :)

Those power numbers are *very close* to an ST3's. ;) A dyno graph would help too. :)

One would need to verify if the wet weight inlcudes side cases. If so, it's very close in that area too. :) What's an ST3"s" wet with side cases? Gotta be what, 560lbs maybe?

160mi (min) here. The fuel light indicates about 4gal were used with 1.5 remaining.

Have a good one.

I just happened across this article:

and it had this comparison dyno graph...

Nice link, thanks. It's an even better bike than I had thought it might be according to that review. I liked the comment re the power delivery, which seems to affirm all reports I've read on Guzzis, ie it's about the grunt. :)
Interestingly, I have gone 170 miles on a full tank on my Streetfighter but I have never gone over 160 miles on my ST4.

That is the way it is, folks.
Are you talking about a modded motor? Are you talking about the mileage when the reserve light turns on?

Have a good one.

Seriously, I'd check my CO2 level, because I think you're dumping gas. My ST4s gets 200+ miles on a tank without a whimper, and it's not stock.

It has compression pistons, 955cc's, SPS cams and a Ducshop tune up. When I ride the slab, it's typically 80-90 mph on both bikes.

I can certainly confirm the grunt. My 1200 sport is essentially a Norge without the fairing & fabulous headlights & it really is a stunning engine. However, I've ridden the 2v engine & the '8v' (4v per head) back to back & would say that the extra horses have to be searched for in a very non-guzzi way - I still prefer the 2v, as do some reviewers:
