Hi Folks.
Some advice please. I am going to install a DP ECU pt. no. 96518708b to my 1100s (it already has the decat and Leo Vince slip-ons) and I will open up the stock air box cover. Is there a procedure for the install and set up of the ECU? Or is it just a case of disconnect the battery, swap the ECU and off you go?
Thanks,
Spin

I just plugged and it played fine.

Turned out it wasn't needed with the set-up i have... cored oem pipes and opened airbox.

( cut the top off the lower filter fitting stub, inside the airbox... made more sense than letting more grit in the top?).

The filter catches grit INSIDE ... so when u lift it out half the grit falls inside the airbox, around the trumpets and it's real hard to clean it all out.
My mod is noisy but lets the crap drop out.

Maybe vacuum the inside of filter before u lift it out?

Any how... i refitted stock ecu. Seems th pipes have the biggest effect on tuning, and mine much crisper off idle and stronger through midrange with factory ecu.
Compared them in top gear roll ons, watching speedo between markers on an uphill straight road. (As good as a dyno).

Waaaay better fuel economy too, the DP XXX08 chip is hungry.

Could be a fraction lean (?) but thousands of hard miles later... bike still alive and well.

Thanks for your input Guys. Is their a guide for a 2008 1100s Hyper TPS reset? (Search gives many different TPS related threads, but I cant see what I actually need).

Save yourself some time and trouble and buy your cable from here:
GuzziDiag Cable Interface Lead

Be sure and download and install their drivers before connecting anything.

I could fill a box with worthless cables I've bought from Ebay / China that had connection issues...

I believe you have a 5AM ECU, GuzziDiag is available online for free. Well, if it works you need to contribute something, but it's free to use.
GuzziDiag / IAWDiag
You want the IAWDiag V0.47 download.
Get the Reader if you want to back up your map.
Get the Writer if you want to modify your map.

Hmmmmm..... Thanks gents, not quite the answer I was hoping for. My previous DP ECU upgrades on my 998 were totally plug and play. I did not expect to need to buy additional hardware and software when doing the same to my Hyper.

Can you tell me:
1. Is the TPS reset a "must do" or a "nice to do"?
2. Is the reset procedure easy to follow for the hard of thinking?
3. Do instructions for the reset procedure come with the hardware, software or both?

1.You should reset the TPS You may get lucky w/o a reset but
it is recommended that you reset it
.
you want to align the the ecu and the throttle position sensor
so the amount of throttle opening of the hardware matches the
software. Several people get alone fine w/o it but it is a good
thing to do.

2. easy to do? Only you can answer that easy for one person
is difficult for others. Search here and you will find everything
you need to know. Or better yet buy the Desmo Times 3rd Edition
Ducati Desmodue/Desmotre Repair Manual everyone who works
on a Ducati should have one. It is written for the layman who
wants to work on his own bike and the Desmo Times Manuals
have been highly rated for years.

3. Depends on the software you buy but again you will find posts
on this site that show how to do it with JPdiag use to be Ducatidiag
or Guzidiag both are free and ask that you donate if you like them
JPdiag you must send your ECU info to get the free license not
required with Guzidiag. You can buy software that comes with cables
etc but they run from hundreds of dollars to thousands.

Hi again folks,

Guzzidiag downloaded, waiting for the recommended cables to arrive.

The ECU I have is the DP 96518708B - is this the "5AM" referred to earlier?.

The ECU will replace the stock item and be installed with LeoVince GP slip-ons, de-cat and modified airbox lid.

My notes show you are correct. When you get the ECU installed be sure and make a backup of the map (BIN).
GuzziDiag has a READER (reads, backs up the map) and WRITER (copies a new map to the ECU).
There used to be a repository for maps to help out the next guy.

Hi,

I am having trouble getting the IAW diag/diagnostic lead to work so that I can reset my TPS.

I have:

1.Connected the +/- leads and have a steady blue power light
2. Connected the diagnostic lead to the diagnostic port on the bike
3. Opened the IAW Diag software and got a blue screen with various blank fields, guzzidiag logo etc.
4. Selected English language
5. Selected the port (see below)
6. Selected the motorcycle ECU (see below)
7. Turned on the motorcycle with the key
Nothing happens on the software screen - all of the fields remain blank.

I understand that my motorcycle (Ducati Hypermotard 1100S, year 2008) has the 5AM ECU. The programme offers 3 different 5AM options, I have tried all of them.

The program offers 5 different Port options (10, 11, 12, 13, 14), I have tried all of them. You've probably guessed I'm not the most accomplished IT guru.

Please can anyone advise.

Thanks,

Spin

You need to know what port that your cables are using and that the
drivers for the usb adapter if you are using one are loaded and
working. Once that is setup turn on the key and from the drop
down menu in Guzzidiag select connect.

Test your cables, there's a procedure I found on DucatiDiag back in the day for doing so. The first blue cable I bought was a dud.

Hypermo -
- The program offers 5 ports and I have tried all of them
- I have had extensive correspondence with Lonelec, the cable supplier, to confirm that the drivers are correctly installed.

Itumacder - I have absolutely no idea (no sh*t!) how to test my cables! I did buy them from the supplier recommended by jduke, so I am confident that they are good quality.

Can anyone confirm which 5AM ecu the Hyper 1100S has - the program lists 3 with different numbers (or doesn't it matter?).

I would assume that your problem is a miss match between your
usb cable com port and the guzzi diag settings. But you know what
happens when you assume something. You have to know what
port your PC is assigning to the usb adapter and match it in Guzzi
Diag. You can change the port setting on your PC to Match one of
the ones in Guzzi Diag.

The attached screen shots show the port settings using windows XP
and Guzzi Diag. You may need the help of someone with a better
understanding of your operating system local to you who could
set this up for in a few mins. The port settings should match the screen
shot as well. You can use all the port setting in Guzzi Diag you want
but until your PC is set to use one of them for the Usb adapter it
will never work.
