Hey all -

My bike has been sitting for about 2 years now  A lot of life circumstances haven't allowed time or funds to fix since the accident.

I'm finally able to get the bike back on the road but I would want someone very knowledgeable to service the bike...it probably needs valve work, along with the other service bits around 10k miles.

Any recommendations? thanks!

What part of LA? There's nick in van nuys. I've heard he's very good. There's a guy in west Hollywood area, also, and he's suppose to be decent. Both are far cheaper than a dealer.

hey thanks for the info!

Honestly, it doesn't matter what part of LA...whoevers' rep is strongest  I just want to make sure valves are done correctly. Any more info on either of them via pm or whatever, i'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks again.

So here are a few you can check into:

1.) Valley Desmo (Reseda): 951.640.8908. Ask for Nick. Check out their reviews on Yelp as I don't believe they have a website. Never been here but the reviews on Nick are really good.

2.) Ducati Specialist Mechanic (West Hollywood, on Romaine 1 block east of Fairfax): 323.218.9300. Dennis is the sole tech. Ducati Mechanic / Specialist - About Me. I've been here and it's a shop in the garage of his house, which was tricky to spot with the gate closed. Not the prettiest place on earth. Also, he was a little unreliable as we made an appointment at a specific day/time and he ended up being gone at that time/day. I limped there on 1 cylinder with frequent stalling and was annoyed that he wasn't there for the appt. I tried several times to call him and it continued to go straight to voice mail. I ended up leaving and he called me back the next day to apologize but it was already a day late and a dollar short. I moved on. But his reviews on Yelp are decent and he's probably very reasonably priced. I'm sure he knows Ducs well but he needs to work on his business running skills.

3.) West Coast GP Cycles (West LA on Pico): 310.477.0997. Home - Motorcycle Service and Repair Santa Monica & West Los Angeles - West Coast GP Cycles. I've been here before and this place is solid. Nick and Dennis might be a bit cheaper as they are smaller shops but this place can easily do your valve adjustment at fair prices.

It looks like you're in Pasadena. If you want good service and money is not as important, you know you've got Pro Italia in Glendale not far from you. This place is great.

I pretty much exclusively go to West Coast GP Cycles because I live in Santa Monica.

I am friends with the owners, they are super awesome nice and knowledgable guys. Last time I was there Peter was servicing a 749R, nice bike!

BUT, since you are east, I don't think you could do better than going to Desmo Valve Service.

Bob Miller (DVS) is the President of the Los Angeles Ducati Owners Club. And he knows EVERYTHING about valve jobs and Ducati service in general. And he will charge way less than a dealer, or even an independent shop.

I know Bob and took his valve class. He's not a service shop for the general public, though. He told me that if you take his class, he will do some service on your bike like valves that he is very good at but I don't think he wants do bike service all that much. He's an engineer for his day job so anything he does is nights/weekends. Also, he's in northeast Fullerton, which is not all that close to Pasadena. Also, I believe bob is the president of the Orange County Ducati owners club, not LA. I just joined the LA Duc club and bob is not the president.

I am the Treasurer of the Los Angeles Ducati Owners Club that you just joined, I assure you that Bob Miller is in fact the Pres. JC Anciano is the VP.

See you at the first meeting at Deus on the 20th! :yeah:

My bad ...I stand corrected. Could have sworn bob was Pres. of the OC club. Did he switch?

So Bob offers classes? I read about that place up in NorCal that has classes. Seemed real cool.

I am in north county San Diego and Fullerton is close enough. I prefer to do as much service on my bike as possible but have yet to do a valve check. If bob has classes where you bring your bike, he assists with q&a Etc. I'd be interested

DS1000 motor
06 Sport Classic 1000

If so please pass along his contact info to me please. Thanks

This is exactly what he does. You can meet him in person if you can make it to our first official meeting on 1/20. Otherwise you can message him directly on facebook once you're in the members only facebook group. Thanks!

I'm a new ducati owner..
Currently living in Oceanside, with that said the only ones I've found around is at moto forza. Been there twice for a few parts and just scheduled an oil change. So far Jason seems like a great guy and I do recommend him. But I haven't had any extensive work done so I really can't have to much of an opinion. If there is a San Diego independent mechanic I would love to hear about him.. Just keeping my options open, maybe better pricing too
