So I took the plunge, I bought a 2009 M1100S. Its my first duc. I still don't have her yet, she'll be coming from Connecticut. My past 8 years have been spent on japanese liter bikes and I just felt they were missing soul. I didn't feel any attachment to them....they were timex watches...did the job just fine, but lacked that extra heart. Honestly I thought my next bike would be a 1098s but then my cuz loaned me the triumph thruxton. My opinion had always been that air/oil-cooled engines were unnecessarily antiquated and weren't up to performance snuff. But I had fun. Its like they say....you buy horsepower and drive torque. The Thrux was super fun around town and just fine for quick blasts on the highway and my lady friends seemed to prefer it on date night-it was more comfy. My first thought was maybe I should get an SC i love the classic looks but I also thought of what I wanted/needed. My list was:
Biposto
dry clutch--raspy goodness
ohlins
single-sided swinger (would be sweet but not a deal breaker)
good brakes
classic looks
V-twin bark
The SC fit many of those characteristics, but the dry clutched '06 is only a mono posto...the 1000 S is nice but to find one with Ohlins reasonably priced (10k or so) in this market was not happening and no dry clutch.
Long story short....I was at the US GP and I saw one of the little monsters with a Darmah body kit on it and I was sold. And the big bike has it all, ohlins, dry clutch, single sided swinger so I bought an 1100 and ordered the body kit. I may even cafe it with some clip ons? And it already has some goodies.

Congrats on the new bike! It's gorgeous and has a lot of great features! I myself just sold my Ninja 1000 a few weeks ago to pick up my 696. An entirely different species of bike than my 3 Kawi's, and it's completely intoxicating!
I'm absolutely in love with it :)
Best of luck and enjoy safely!

Thanks Jay.

What do you have planed for the 696 modwise or is it a commuter? Did you have a zx10R or was it a Z1000 standard?

Yeah I am pretty happy with this bike it has:
rizoma rear sets
scotts damper
crg levers and bar end mirrors
a short license plate bracket
Termi Slips
Braided brake lines
New michelins and new belts at 7k miles!

I am not sure I like the look of the Termi's I kinda like the Leo Vince GP EVO II and also the GP CORSE Hydro formed slips. I guess I have cheap taste. :D
So I may be selling the Termi's.

I plan to use this as my round town bike and also the designated Laguna Seca track toy as my race series doesn't go there and my race bike is too loud. This bike comes with the stock pipes and inserts for the Termis...so we'll be able to get it under the sound restriction.

My 696 came with a few mods already on it. FMF Apex carbon fiber slip-ons, power commander V, m 1100 bars, carbon fiber monster tank pad, Ducati performance passenger grab bars (which are for sale). Since bringing it home, I added my CRG bar end mirrors and deleted the factory ones, installed motivation frame sliders and rhinoMoto bar ends, installed the competition werkes fender eliminator, and just wrapped the center tank pieces in carbon fiber vinyl. I'm waiting to put my Driven D3 grips on until I can get to the shop with an air compressor, and I have a 14T sprocket on order. I'll probably stop there for a while… But we all know how that goes!! Enjoy that thing on the track; I'm sure it will be a complete blast!
