I just spoke to dealer that said it should do 120 to 140 with conservative highway ridding per tank, 25 to over 30 per gallon.

I would love to hear from those who have one to see what they are getting.

My commute is 60 miles one way to work. I am hoping to be able to get back home before filling??

That isn't unreasonable however, fuel consumption depends greatly on how frisky you are with the wrist.

I have seen 220 kms (130ish miles) on a tank but I have also seen 85 (-: (with an 821 SP)

Not sure how accurate the counter is on the bike but this is what mine says. And I tend to ride somewhat aggressive most of the time. I’ve had it dip below 40 on a track weekend. I haven’t really paid attention to how many miles I can get on a tank, but I’d estimate 120-140 per tank.

I get much better mileage when touring than I do when hitting the local backroads. I attribute this to more time spent maintaining a relatively consistent speed when touring (speeds might vary between 75 - 95 or so whereas when I'm riding the local roads they tend to be tighter and more technical so there's lots of braking followed by heavy throttle application.

Around town and on local rides I find I the fuel light comes on around 80 miles or so and I can usually bank on another 35 on reserve if I back off a bit. When touring I was seeing the fuel light come on between 100 and 120 depending the pace, headwinds, etc. In those conditions I could pretty much trust the average and realtime mpg reading to come up with my reserve range (being conservative so as not to run dry) which usually meant I could do another 70 miles if I needed to.

I was just on a weekend trip and I was averaging 140-150 miles before my fuel light would come on. When I was riding just on the highway, I was running in “wet” mode on my SP which seemed to help get better mpg from the readout on the dash. When I’m just going for rides around town, the light usually comes on about 100-110. I usually can go about 40 more miles on the reserve if I’m pushing it. I did run out of gas just once but luckily I was a half a block from the gas station.

Based on my fill ups it seems like my light comes on with about 2 gallons left as I'm putting in anywhere from 2 - 2.5 gallons if I fill up relatively soon after the light comes on. I've definitely pushed well past 40 miles with the light on and the bike suggesting I was getting around 45 - 50 mpg.

Huh. Well look at that. I've overlaid two bits of info to create an erroneous impression. The owner's manual says the reserve is 4 liters and if I top up when light comes on I can squeeze in another 10. I just assumed the tank was 14 litres.

Problem is the owner's manual also says the tank holds 16L.

Either the reserve is really 6 litres OR the tank doesn't really hold 16 litres of fuel.

Question though.. Why didn't they put a gas gauge E/F meeter? It seems so much easier than having to work with the trip millage.
I really don't understand the reasoning for that, other than the display not having room? For a road bike, I think this is an important function to have.
I mean, the one time you forget to reset the trip monitor, then it becomes a guessing game, that would really suck.

On my 821 I used to see around 48 highway and 38 city/hooligan. This equates to around a 150mi safe range. Some have stretched this upwards of 180mi.

That should be no problem especially if your on the highway at all, I usually get between 200-220 mix of city and hwy
