Hello everyone,

after six and a half years of owning a 999S (full story here) I wanted a change and did not mind a more relaxed riding position either. I've liked the original Hypermotard since day one but never really looked into buying one. Now was the perfect time to get one and obviously it had to be the EVO SP to get the lighter engine, the all black Marzocchi forks etc. Unfortunately they proved to be hard to find in Europe - here in Finland there is currently only one registered :D I browsed the German, Dutch, Italian and French marketplaces for a while without any real success, the ones I found were either overpriced or had too many miles for my liking.

Eventually a dude on Facebook told me there was one for sale in Belgium. 9800km, 2011, white, 99% original condition (just the Termignoni 2-1 system installed). Luckily the seller spoke perfect English (he works at a Ducati dealer) and was even willing to pack the bike on a pallet for shipping. Long story short, the bike finally arrived in snowy Finland on the 22nd of January. Now the bike has been inspected for registration and I'm waiting for it to be taxed to get a license plate.

Otherwise in pretty much mint condition but the alternator casing has some rock chips which have started corroding due to the cover being magnesium:



I have already purchased a NOS OEM alternator casing and will order the small parts (crank end bearing, shift shaft seal etc.) for it soon. I'll also have it coated with a matte clear coat to protect it from corrosion a bit better.



To match the alternator casing I bought a NOS DP magnesium vented clutch casing with titanium fasteners. I won't be using the included Ti screws though since they are poor quality (ugly manufacturing marks inside heads). Even though the stock clutch casing is the same color as the alternator side it's actually not magnesium so this will provide a small weight saving as well :)



To go with the alternator casing I have a stainless steel case saver and a DP 28mm billet slave. I'm hoping to use the clutch off my 999S, it's a 999F05 Corse four post slipper with Surflex aluminium plates and a carbon RS cover. More on this later...



Some other parts have also arrived - CNC Racing billet triples, CNC Racing billet cam covers, some MaxiCarbon bits, Brembo billet rear caliper (billet front calipers are off the 999S):

I think you should consider this to be good luck - it is obligatory that as soon as you create a truly beautiful bike that you intend to ride, it is just a matter of time before you drop it (same with helmet paintjobs). Fortunately yours did not result in injury or substantial damage. Now that you've got the 'off' done and dusted, you can wring her neck good and proper and enjoy the ride :) .
Glad to hear your ok. That’s the important thing. The damage looks minimal. A nice left hand side panel will pop up eventually on EBAY.

Hello. It's been a while since the lastest update.

I started the season May 21st and mounted some cheapo bar end mirrors before that to test them, since the OEM mirrors don't really seem to stay in position no matter how well you try to torque the plastic ring.
I found a fix on mine for those very loose OEM mirrors. I took the ball and socket apart and scuffed up the surface of the ball with some course emery tape. The ball is made from a very soft cheesy metal and is easily scuffed. The friction now is about right, the mirror can still be adjusted without loosening the nut but the mirrors don’t have a mind of their own.
I just slapped a set of Ducati performance mirrors and never looked back. Now I can split lanes and not have to fold mirrors

Yes - I also think I got lucky since the damage was not too bad and the most important bits weren't damaged.

True :) The fairing is a custom painted Aviacompositi carbon one so no replacement will be available unless I buy a new one and have it painted. I'm hoping to take the fairing to my painter dude today, he said he can fix it without painting the whole thing.

Yeah, insurance money came through yesterday and some parts already arrived (y)

The friction now is about right, the mirror can still be adjusted without loosening the nut but the mirrors don’t have a mind of their own.
I originally tried applying some friction paste (as used on carbon seatposts etc. on bicycles) and sanded the ball a bit. Also added a tiny piece of double sided tape in the mounting pin of the ball to prevent any play on the connection to the handguard bracket. Used a bit of grease on the locking ring as well to aid torquing the ring up properly but none of these really worked... Will have another go when I start putting the handguards in place again.

I think the bar end mirrors are one of the things that makes the HM a HM :) The conventional mirror type is functional but I'm not a fan of the looks. No filtering allowed here so the width is fine as well...


Shift pedal + rubber + bolt and the RH handguard bracket (my bike had two left side ones for some reason...) already arrived, along with a CNC Racing mounting kit for rotary damper plus the damper itself. The clamp used on this kit happened to be the same as the one I had so got a bit lucky there. I had ordered this much earlier than the lowside already. The handguard itself will be sold most likely, I only needed the bracket but it appeared they are not available separately. There was nothing wrong with the current shift pedal bolt but a new one was only 4€ so figured might as well renew it too to minimize any play on the pivot.

Quick test fit with a 3D printed (ABS) mount for the lever pin bracket.





I'm going to get some threaded rod instead of the bolts and use the dome nuts that came with the kit for mounting eventually.

Scotts have the mounting kit as well as the damper, but it's a bit bulkier looking than the CNC Racing version. Ducati also offered the damper with a mounting kit as a Ducati Performance part but that one has the damper on top of the bars. Looks hideous to me

The CNC Racing kit has been out of production for a long time, but a dude in Italy organized a group buy for 10 kits. I was lucky to talk him about a different thing at the time and got the last available kit :) Had to find the damper separately, this one came off a Multistrada. I'm considering doing an oil change before the final installation.

Here is the Scott’s mount. There are two different types of Ohlins/Scott’s steering stabilizers available. They look identical, but one is for road-bikes, the other is for off-road bikes.

I guess I do remember the Scott's sub mount damper and bar clamp kit, I have their off road damper and similar style BRP bar clamp on my ATAS and it works very well. That top mount DP kit is hideous looking, I don't remember that one at all. I've only ever installed the DP FG Gubellini or CNC Racing and Ohlins linear damper style on Hypers.

Slowly getting there. The fairing is still at the painter but I have now changed the oil on the steering damper and replaced the shift lever + slider pads on footpegs + side stand + handguards + mirrors + bar clamp. I have a new footpeg waiting and a new rearset bracket + pivot pin has been ordered. Did not remove the current peg yet since the pivot pin is slightly bent so I'd probably not be able to reinsert it anymore after removal. Damper setup has also been mounted with a curved spacer and a new adjustment knob.

The handguards now have custom indicators with DRL's installed in original indicator housings with custom wiring using OEM Amp Multilock 040 connectors. The DRL switches off when the indicator is flashing and turns back on with a delay when the indicator is switched off. Damper oil looked like shit. Guess it's never been serviced. Need to do a full rebuild next winter but it feels good after a flush with fresh 2.5W oil.

Beautiful bike (I think I said that in an earlier post, but worth repeating!)
Where are you located? Just starting to cool down here in North Carolina enough to be enjoyable, but fall goes quickly, especially in the mountains where the good riding is!
