Hyper 796 idling at 2.5k... what the?

Started my hypermotard for the first time today and noticed it was idling high. It went back to 1.3k after i revved it a few times but after I took it around the neighborhood and pressed the clutch it went back to its shenanigans. What is going on? It doesnt have but 500 miles on it. Thanks in advance the only mod it has is an 02 optimizer which its had for the past 200 miles without a problem.

No body?

I did a little digging through the site and I guess it has something to do with the throttle bodies. The bike is brand new and I would hate to go messing with things I shouldnt especially since I dont even know where the throttle bodies are.

Anyone know what steps I should take?
so you have a power commander? check the wire going into the tps or maybe the injectors? i dont know double check the wiring, undo them and check again, airbox mods? something making the throttle bodies stick open? vacuum leak?
Completely stock. Dynojet 02 optimizer. Thats it. How do I get to the air box?
Air box wouldn't have anything at all to do with this. Did u try unplugging optimizer ( putting back stock ) and trying it again?
Also check on right side of bike where the throttle turns and make sure ther is no obstructions keeping it from fully closing .

Sorry I can't help as I don't even have one under me YET. But it's under warranty, no?

If it were mine, I'd take it to the shop and let them deal with it. Good luck! I'm not up on EFI but on a carbed bike if you have to blip the throttle to get it to idle at the correct RPM, it could mean that it is too lean OR too rich at idle.

What is that 02 thingy you put on supposed to do?

Its to shut off the 02 sensor and richen out the fuel a bit. The bike runs hella lean from factory so it helps with the bogging.

vb796,

I'll try that tomorrow and see if it does anything. I checked the throttle cable and it has just as much slack as it did the day I picked it up.
Also it could be bad gas. I had a similar problem that was fixed by getting gas from a different station.
^^Been using 7eleven premium 93oct since I got her. We'll see if disconecting the optimizer and plugging the stock fixs it.
buzz ---wrong---
it doesnt turn off crap.it only tricks the signal to richen up the mix.

Right, thanks for the correction how bout some advice now please.
It's the tps needing to be reset. Turn the key from the on to off position 5 times then start it up. It sounds ridiculous but it has worked for me.

Yeap thats what my dealership said. I tried doing that about 3 to 4 times. Just off and on and letting it set up and over again. Unfortunately it didnt help so they are sending someone to my house to take a look at it later today.
So the dealership came to my house looked at it for 5 minutes and realized it wasnt what they thought it was (tps) and had to do something with the idle control of the bike. Basically they put it on the trailer and took it to the shop and now I miss my best friend :/

Also told him to put the remaining 40 miles on so he could do the 600 mile service :D
So just got the hypermotard back from the dealership[ and they said that what was causing the high idle was the 02 Optimizer on the stock ECU. It was causing the ecu to think the bike was cold hence the idle. He recommended to buy a DP ecu to be the best optioin to turn off 02's. Guess its time to save up!
You can send your ecu off to a number of companies to have it reflashed to dp ecu for way less than buying a dp ecu. While there they can get rid of the scrolling words on, key on. And put in a custom phrase like "Carlo's Tard" that'll scroll across the screen on key on. Do a search on it. Also You could just buy a PCV to go with the optimiser and do the same thing.

Thanks bro. I will look into doing that. I plan on doing that when I have enough money for an LV decat which should be by next month. I will talk to my dealer about it. He came to my house, picked up the bike, and dropped it back off today. He said to keep it off for right now.

And what about the mod air box as well? He advised against that because of dumping more fuel or something. He said a regular KN filter would be fine.
If you do the airbox mod with the holes above and below the filter and add a real air filter, K&N, UNI, MWR, etc. you should be fine. Without additional fuel. if you do a set of stacks and pods or the mwr filter top airbox mod you will need to add more fuel to stay away from a lean condition. Either new dp ecu, re-flash ecu, PcV, or Bazzazz. I went with pcv over re-flash because you can adjust as you make changes with out pulling ecu out and sending it off for a reflash everytime you change exhaust or intake, some bike even switching out the filter for another brand filter will need a re-flash to lean or richen fuel mixture.
