I am looking at a used 2004 999. One of the fairings was replaced with a 749R fairing. I know that the decals are under the clearcoat. Is it expensive to have this fixed with the correct decals?

Yes it can be because it needs to be sanded down and the decals need to be placed after it is repainted and the decals need to be recleared.
The most cost is in the labor and prep.
Matching the color is also important.
i have also seen where it is painted and the decal is placed over the clear and left that way.
