So I bought a 2005 749 (red) about 2 weeks ago. It was the model off the showroom floor, has 50km on it seeing it was a demo.

I took the bike home and it wouldnt start up, so bad battery.
No problem the dealer said they would give me a new battery.
Seeing I want to hear my bike run the dealer said I can just jump it from my car.

So I got the fairings off hooked and jump started it.

As soon as I turned the key the lights came on and but the bike still wont start. I noticed a key and it said 'code' flashing on the gauge. There is a image of a key and it reads 'code'.

So ok I try to use my other black key and still wont start, I then turn my back to get a smoke and my friend without me seeing puts in the 'red key' and says 'what does this do', I freaked out cause my owner manual says 'keep the red key as far away as possible'.

Can some one tell me what is going on with my bike?????

And because my friend put in the 'red' key is my bike now reprogramed, and good luck for now even trying to start it???/?

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I just want to hear my bike go 'vroom vroom'

Don't worry. The RED key (if it matches your bike and imobilizer) will never harm the bike. The RED key is a master key which you use to reprogram the imobilizer to recognize new BLACK keys.

You can start your bike just fine with the RED key, but don't use it as a regular every day key. If you were to loose the RED key while out riding, you can't get a replacement.

There is a process you follow to program your imobilizer with the code of a new BLACK key using the RED key, but I can't remember it off hand. The bottom line is that you can safely start you bike with the RED key. If it won't start, the key either doesn't belong to the bike or you have another problem.

The red key is used to reprogram other black keys if needed (not your bike). If the immobilizer is faulty then you need to use your code card but the dealer can help you with all that.
More than likely the problem has to do with just a bad battery and not the required volatge to run the electronics.

First things first: Did you check if the KILL switch is off? (that's the red button on the right handlebar - sorry just making sure).

Once you are sure that's off:

Is your CODE light flashing continuously or does it stay on?

- Normal is that it will flash for a few seconds and then turn off. You can turn on the bike once it has disappeared

- If the CODE light is constantly on, then that means it is not recognizing the key. Turn it off and back on ... if it still doesn't work, try the other BLACK key. If it doesn't start, then you might have to take it back to the dealer to reset the keys.

- If the CODE light is flashing constantly... that is only a signal that the immobilizer was reset. Turn it off and back on, and it should work fine.

If none of that is working, then perhaps you either have a bad battery as mentioned, or something else.

This "issue" got me "stranded" once when I just picked up a new Monster a few years back from Rev. :)
Even called the shop and they almost sent out someone.
It was embarrasing :)

So I started my boy for the first time today, yes it was cause I had him in first. :D

Man that thing can roar!

I was ensure if I would like the sound because I was so use to my r6 twobrothers racing pipe noise, but man I dont think I ever heard a sweeter sound then that!

I keep smelling my hair cause it smells like exhaust from my bike.
mmmmmmmmmmm so good :D
