I have just taken apart my showa forks on my 1998 F.E. to fit a gold valve and new spring.

At least one of the rebound valve shim stacks has been set up incorrectly from the factory as the are both different. I had to drill out the indents to remove the compression valve from the damper tube so I know no one has been in there before.

Presently the left hand side is set up as follows:

This is the order of the components starting from the top of the damper rod.

1. Plastic top hat washer
2. spring washer
3. Check valve plate
4. Valve (indented side facing top hat)
5. (four) 17mm x 0.15 mm shims
6. 9mm x .20mm shim
7. (two) 11mm x .20mm shims
8. (two) 11mm x .40mm shims
9. 12.5mm x 2.5mm clamping washer
10. securing nut

And the right hand side is set up as follows

This is the order of the components starting from the top of the damper rod.

6. (two) 11mm x .40mm shims
7. (two) 11mm x .20mm shims

Can anyone advise if whick if either is set up correctly?

Got on the phone to Rick from Cogent Dynamics and he confirmed that the largest washers should always go closest to the valve then graduate down in size as you get further from the valve.

Sounds like a miscue from the factory. All the shims were there just in a different order. I did the same mod last year and didn't concern myself with what I took out as it was all getting replaced anyway.

Ducati Marco, I think you are right a miscue at the factory. BTW did you replace just the compression valve and shim stack or the compression and rebound valve and shim stack?
