Hello all,
I need a little help.
I am working on my new to me 1999 900 SS
I was replacing the headlight bulb today and saw this. It looks like it might be a temperature sensor for the FI. But I looked at the airbox and didn't see a spot where this would be inserted into the airbox.
Does anybody have an idea what it is and where it should be?
Thanks in Advance.

Thanks, that's exactly what it is.
But where is the rubber grommet supposed to go?

As the previously attached picture showed, this fits in the front dash/fairing support.

The rubber grommet is shaped with cuts in each edge in order to fit in the front fairing support in the section in front of the main frame lower bolt. Match the cuts in the rubber with the fairing support, then slide down till it securely fits as the fairing support opening becomes narrower.
