I recently had the left hand control switch replaced on my 01 748 due to an accident. I've noticed that when I switch to high beam, the low beam light shuts off. Should'nt the low beam light stay on? When I depress the high beam flasher switch the low beam light stays on. What I did was to reinstall the original left hand control switch and noticed that the low beam light stay on when I depress the HB switch and HB flasher. Is there an electrical glitch in the new switch? Thanks for the help.

There definitely are a couple of different versions out there. You can open up the switch and just move the low beam wire (yellow, I think) to the common 12V supply terminal on the little switch pc board with a soldering iron, so low is always on with the key.

Ciao!

My 916 was like this when I bought it, I modified the wiring in the switch so that the low beam stays on when switching to high beam - only needs the wire moving to another contact in the switch, about a 10 min job.

Yup, I modded my 749 switch so the low beam stays on when high is selected, so I have both beams on high.

To me, the stock headlights suck. It's not a power thing, it's a pattern thing. Having both on when in High Beam mode helps fill a huge hole the high beam alone leaves.

Do you know what year and model the "new" switch came from?

I'm guessing you got an switch off an older bike.
+1.
Mine was the same before modification.

I modified mine so it does the opposite.
Lowbeam shuts off when using the "pass" button, but stays on with highbeam when using the highbeam button.

The thought is that i can use the "pass" button to get the lowbeam/highbeam to wigwag oncoming traffic
