Replaced the head gasket on my 999. When I pulled the head off the gasket fell on the floor before I saw the orientation.
These gaskets have coolant holes on one side and not on the other. Opposite the side with the coolant holes it is solid with two small brass rivets in it.
Does the solid side with the small rivets point to the intake side or the exhaust side when you place it on the cylinder? Thanks.

it can only go one way, due to the dowels and the oil drains. put it on top of the cylinder, it should be pretty obvious.

I'm darn certain it went on correct, but the bike indicated high temps today...240 degrees....
The fans were running and nothing was boiling over..... wonder if an electrical connector wasn't tight??? I'll check those.
Normal temps before pulling things apart to install the new gasket.
