Does your bike suffer from hesitation or stumble? Does it have poor acceleration or poor fuel economy even though it has been tuned? These problems are likely to be the contaminants built up in the fuel systems of even relatively low mileage bikes with today's typical riding patterns. A problem that often tune-ups alone cannot fix.
Most people do not realize that injectors normally do not go bad, they are usually just dirty.
Fuel Injectors are manufactured to operate and last for about 250,000 + miles, but over a period of time harmful deposits can build up around the injector nozzle and inside the injector; clogging the injector filter basket and reducing the amount of fuel being delivered. When the fuel delivery is out of spec, drivability problems exist because the computer is unable to maintain the proper overall air/fuel ratio.
We visually inspect each injector for broken connectors, broken pintles or other damaged areas. Next we test each injector for leaks at the tip as well as the body. We then electrically test the injector and then we check the spray pattern as seen in the picture.
We measure how many CC’s the injectors flow over a specified period of time. All injectors are flowed at different pulse cycles for delivered fuel quantities. As you can see the injectors (prior to cleaning) flow between 20 CC’s and 33 CC’s. That might be the cause of rough idle or poor performance and gas mileage.
We remove the filter baskets for inspection, as well as the O-rings and pintle caps if removable. They will be replaced with new ones at the completion of the service.
We place the injectors in the ultrasonic bath, which physically shake deposits loose using sound at a frequency, that resonates with particles, but not the injector bodies because injectors pulse at various frequencies during the cleaning, the cleaning fluid backflushes through the injector and carries the garbage back out.
The injectors are again flow tested for spray pattern and volume. These are the same injectors as seen before, but with the pintle cap removed. Note the difference in the spray pattern from before.
Then injectors are flowed again. Note that the injectors now match. You will receive the before and after test results on a flow sheet.
