Hi Guys,
I would like to change my fuel filter and clean the fuel pump strainer on my 2003 1000ss ie ds.
I have seen threads about how to get the fuel cap off for access but not what to do after this.
I'm after a detailed step by step if it exists on forum.
Is this an easy task as I'm pretty good on the tools?
Thanks in advance!

I actually just did this to my 800ss. I recommend you pump the fuel out first. Then once fuel cap and fuel cap frame are removed, unscrew clamp that holds fuel line after filter to the gas tank metal line out. Some bikes have one time use clamps. So pop those off with a screw driver. Lift the fuel pump up off the metal holders. Then disconnect the power wire to the fuel pump. Then entire thing should come out of our tank now. Should be fuel line -> filter ->fuel line->pump->strainer.

From there inspect the fuel lines. I recommend you just buy new fuel lines and clamps as well. There were not that expensive. Remove all the clamps and install the new filter. As for the strainer it is held on with a metal ring. Pop that off with a flat head screw driver. Install new strainer and push that ring on again.

Once everything is out back together. Just install the front fuel line first to the metal line out. Then push the fuel pump back into the holder and plug the power in.

Hope that helps.
