Has anyone out there removed the front sprocket cover from their 848? I'm wondering if the 2 screws that secure the sprocket cover to the stator cover:

1) Actually pass through the stator cover and anchor into the engine case

or

2) Do they stop somewhere inside the stator cover and never reach the engine case?

Gonna' go carbon fiber, but I just want to be certain where these fasteners are actually anchoring before applying wrenches to the bike. I keep looking at the bike and the parts manuals, but it's difficult to discern from either source.

Can't say for certain on the 848, but on all my Ducs, they just hold the cover in place. They're not very long.

The 2 bolts just hold the sprocket cover in place.
